Recreationally speaking BY MIKE STEPHENS This week I have a few announcements of future program. The first is that Friday afternoon skating for grades 5-8 is changed to Friday morning from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. This weekend begins the girl's hockey tournament and game will begin on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the Vanastra Arena, They will continue again all (lay Saturday at the Vanastra Arena and the finals will' be on Sunday here at our own Clinton Arena, The schedule is in another part of the paper. So come on out and support our own Clinton Raiders, Also please look elsewhere in the paper this week for other important stories, One is on "Regional Development in Sports" the other is on Clinton Intermediate Baseball. The activities so far for this week for easter break have been well participated in. It's really good to see so many people out. Please check closely the section "This Week in Recreation" for all the program. Soon the ice will be coming out of our arena so if you want to get in some skating you'd better do it soon. Steve's Strikers lead the way with 89 points, followed closely by the Strikeouts with 85, Kelly's Heroes with 84 and the Alley Dusters with 82. The top four are followed by the Wildcats with 70, the Wipeouts and Tor- nadoes each have 69 and the Crown Royals trail with 68, Marilyn Mair had the girl's high single of 179 and Gayle Cunningham had the high double of 326. Alex Harrett took all the boy's honors with the high single of 274 and the high triple of 468. With the final week coming up in the Molson's Crown Mixed League playoff, only 100 pins separate the top five teams. Six Pack have the lead, followed by Zip Cats, The Goldens, Half and Half, and Hi-Jinx's. The top five are followed by Canadians, Crown Royals and Dot's Spots. Marilyn Hoy and Donna Gib- bings tied for the ladies high single with 273 each, while Pat Mann had the high triple of 705 and Gerry Harris had the high average of 216, Bill Gib- bings swept the men's honors with the high single of 322 and the high triple of 825. Bruce Collins had the high average of 218. In Bill's Men's League, God- fathers still have first spot with 47 points, followed by the Colts with 35, Unpredictables with 34 and the Out of Towners with 16. Gary Black had the high single of 293 and the high triple of 793. Labatt's Blues continue to dominate the Crown Teen League with 113 points. Les Etoiles Manifique are a distant second with 87, and are followed by Coconut's Crew and Deep Purple with 81 and Bloomers with 63. Peggy Swit- zer had the girl's high single of 225 while Deb Johnston had the high triple of 584. Bev Bromley had both the boy's high single of 306 and the high triple of 731. In the Clinton-Myth Ladies League, Sea Monkeys lead the way with 62 points, followed by the Road Runners with 57, Laughing Hyenas with 50, The Pacers with 47, the North Stara with 43 and the Hot Shots with 41„ Edna Atkinson had the ladies high single of 287, Harriet Tyndall had the high triple of 663 and Mary Davey had the high average of 208. Heidelburgs have a comman- cling lead in the Wil-Dex League with 68 points. They are followed by the Molson Brewers with 49 and the Red Caps and Octoberfest follow with 42 each. Linda Dixon had the ladies' high single of 269 and Bev Van Ninhuys' 554 was the high triple. John Hoy had the men's high single of 208 and Martin Van Ninhuys had the high triple of 537. In the Londesboro Ladies' League, Jump-N-Beens have a good lead with 116 points, followed by Jelly Beens with 90, Mixed Beens with 87 and In-B-Tweens with 57. Ruth Vincent had the ladies' high single of 264 and Nancy Roy had the high triple of 660 and the high average of 204, Maoks are still driving up front in the Londesboro Men's League with 105 points. They are followed by Whites with 80, Auto Cars with 76 and Ken- worths with 75. Jack Arm- strong had both the men's high single of 293 and the high triple, of 667, while Cliff Saun- dercock had the high average of 214, In the Bayfield Bowling League, Alley Dusters have a slim lead with 119 points, followed closely by Alley Rats with 112, Bull Shooters with 106 and Cock-A-Dodle-Do's with 105. In the ladies' division, Dianne Argyle had the high single of 290 and the high triple of 647. Bill Talbot took all the men's honors with the high single of 265 and the high triple of 682. Seldy's Sumacs lead the Tuckersmith Mixed League with 112 points, followed by Cliff's Chesnuts with 95; Bob's Birches, 77; Ed's Elms, 71; Wally's Willows, 66 and Joost's Junipers, 63. Ruby Triehner had the ladies' high single of 229 and Ann Lenting had ihe high triple 'of 578. -Ed Layton had both the men's high single of 297 and the high triple of 731, In the Ladies' Afternoon League, Giddy-Up-Go lead the pack with 80 points followed by Alley Cats with 64, Mad Caps with 58 and Afternoon Flyers with 51. Rosemary Armstrong had the ladies' high single of 261, while Gerry Harris had the high triple of 686 and the high average of 215. The Eighth Annual Knights of Columbus Hockey Tour- nament will be held on. Satur- day, March 24th and con- cludes on Sunday, March 25th. The tournament is being held again this year in the Seaforth Memorial Arena. The tournament is sponsored by the Father Stephen Eckert Council, Knights of Columbus, of Seaforth and District. Three are four categories made up of Sr. "A", Sr. "B" and Jr. "A", and Jr. "B", which includes Grades 8, 7 and 6 for Senior Teams and Grades 3, 4 and 5 for Junior Teams. Saturday for Junior "A" championship game, Intermediates to talk ball This Sunday the Inter- mediate "C" baseball team from Clinton will hold its second meeting at the Clinton Arena at 11 p.m. and will last approximately an hour, This is the Intermediate team which won the All- Ontario Championship the last two seasons. Anyone 18 years of age and over interested in playing or in helping out, should attend this meeting. Len Fawcett will be the manager once again this season. He has informed us that the players from last year's team will be going around in search of support from the townspeople to help buy the badly needed uniforms. Please give them any co- operation they ask for, and let's get behind them and give them a winning team agaiii this year.
