Clinton News-Record, 1973-03-08, Page 11ome Care catches n in Huron County . Home Care has become reality -in Huron County and Goderich and area residents are enjoying its services. In the past year, 39 from this district were cared, for under the plan. Of these, 38 had Victorian Or- der Nurses care, 21 had homemaker services and five had physiotherapy at home. Mrs. $etty Cardno, nursing administrator for the Home Care program reminds everyone that the objective of Home Care is the care of the patient at home rather than in hospital, either by early discharge or in place of hospital care. "Home Care is provided to elected patients, as not everyone can be adequately cared for at home," says Mrs. Cardno. "The patient must be referred by his family and must need either nursing care or physiotherapy. His medical condition must appear to have a possibility of improving to a position of independence." When a patient is accepted for Home Care, nursing, physiotherapy, homemaking, drugs and dressing as well as Xray and laboratory services may be provided. These ser- vices are arranged according to the individual requirements of the patient and the costs are paid by OHIP the same as if .he patient was in hospital. As long as the patient shows improvement, Home Care may be provided. "The only restriction is on the homemaking service which is limited to 80 hours per patient," says Mrs. Cardno. "If homemaking is required for a longer period, it must be provided privately or arranged through the Huron County Social Services," There are 40 trained homemakers available in the county, Mrs. Cardno reported. Eleven trained homemakers are on call when required in the Goderich area. Throughout the county in 1972, 198 patients received Home Care; 167 had nursing care; 52 patients claimed physiotherapy; and 107 patients had homemaking ser- vices. The patients ranged in age from 10 years to 95 years; 53 patients lived alone. Mrs. Cardno did say that Home Care is limited to giving active treatment with rehabilitation to selected patients. "It does not answer the needs of the patient requiring con- tinuing care such as nursing or homemaking," said Mrs. Car- dno. "With the curtailment in homemaking service through Home Care, an alternative method of providing this ser- vice should be developed." 1,200 will vote on liquor URNS BRAND, STORE PACK, BEEF & PORK Sausages lb 6111 McQuaide Brand, 3 Varieties, Steak, Tourtiere, Chicken Meat Pies 8-oz twin pac 38?
