Game time Friday night is 8:30 p.m. The Clinton Junior "D" Mustangs finished their hockey season last Sunday in Exeter when they lost the deciding game in the last 80 seconds op a heartbreaking goal by Exeter Hawk Glover. The Mustangs needed to win the game to force another game in the seven game playoff with the Hawks. Last Tuesday February 27 in Exeter, the Mustangs lost their third game to the Hawks by a score of 3-2 Only 12 penalties were called, Exeter took 7 of them. This series was a very good series for Clinton. They came out of an early slump in the season and managed a fourth place finish. They took on sup- posedly the best team in On- tario in the first round and took them to the limit of seven games. One game was tied, three were settled by one goal, two were settled by two goals, and one was settled by three, The games were very close and could have gone either way. This series gained Clinton some much needed experience in playoff hockey and was also a moral booster. For a team that wasn't sup- pose to make the playoffs, from talk at the beginning of the year, they proved they could play hockey. They played very well when they had to, but were beaten out by a more experien- ced and a more polished team. The Mustangs have high hopes for next year. As a player myself, and speaking on behalf of the other players, I would like to thank very much a list of people. First there's Bill Weber, for taking the time to coach us. Next there's some of the out of town players who helped out greatly, Peter Thayer from Vanastra, Gary Yeoman, Paul Johnson, and Phil Petrie • from the Goderich area, and the MacDougall brothers from Blyth. (Also Ron Graham from West. U. ) A good word also has to be put in for the management. "Foss" Livermore, Len Fawcett; and Clarence Neilans took care of most of the executive work. Doug Kennedy Brian Kennedy, Dennis Fleischauer, Tom Murch, and Nick Hudgins helped out greatly with the equipment. A thank you must also go out to our bus drivers for the away games. My largest vote of thanks has to go' to the fans and suppor- ters. The players have greatly appreciated the support they received all year, and hope they made it worth while for the fans. The support was the fans. The support was outstanding in the playoffs. Many thanks again to all who supported us, and we hope to see you all next year. By Mike Stephens This was a busy week in town for the soccer people. The town of Clinton now has soccer teams. We have a men's senior soccer team which is entered in the London and District Third Division. The men will begin training next Wednesday at the Recreation Hall, Vanastra at 7 In minor soccer we are en- tering four teams, ages 8-10, 10- 12, 12.14, and 14-16. What we need now are more sponsors. The teams have to be registered by this Saturday, so if you are slightly interested phone Don Armstrong at 482-9478 and give him your name. As for sponsors it is not costly to sponsor a minor team. We will only have four teams. So if you would like to sponsor The Clinton Colts play the Milverton Four Wheel Drives tomorrow night (Friday) at the Community Centre at 8:30 in what is termed a "do or die" situation Milverton leads 3-2 in games in the best-of-seven series. The seventh game (if necessary) will be played in Milverton on Sun- day afternoon at 2-The winner of the series face the Durham Midget Huskies for the WOAA Grand Championship. Last Thursday night, the Clinton Colts led by Rick Fremlin's three goal perfor- mance edged the Milverton club 8-7. Fremlin's third goal assisted by Butch Fleet at 13:18 of the third frame proved to be the winner. The two teams played a 1-1 first period but Milverton broke loose in the second and ran up a 6-4 lead by the end of the period. Captain Ken Daer and centre Greg Burns both scored a pair of goals while Don MacDougall accounted for the other. Murray Kerr and Eddy Erb led Milverton with a pair of goals each. Bud }3 oyes received a knee injury in the hard hitting con- test and will be sidelined for the rest of the season. COLT SCORING FIRST PERIOD: 1 Fremlin, Fleet 12:20. SECOND PERIOD: 2 Burns, Meriam, MacDougall 3:28; 3 don't wait to be asked, take the initiative and call Don. Anyway, games will be begin- ning in April-May so we'd bet- ter get moving now. Beginning on March 17, the students of public and high schools will be off for one week. We are in the process of plan- ning a series of special ac- tivities for all groups for that week so they don't have to spend that whole week, wat- ching T.V. or getting into their parents'hair. Watch the paper next week for more details. If you can remember back to the Winter Carnival Days, you will recall our family skate program. It was to say the least, successful. This Sunday night we will keep our promise and have it again. It will not interfere with public skating on this Sunday afternoon, On the contrary it will complement it. The admission will be 25c per family. This means that if husband and wife come it's 1.2 112c each-, if they bring their three children it's 5c each, Now we aren't discriminating against small families because, any relative is family, bring your cousins. If you bring 25 people the cost is lc each. Children must be accompanied by an adult is the otly rule we have. This two week event climaxed with the championship games on Sunday. The event was well attended by the teams from out of town. There have been a lot of com- plaints about poor refereeing. At this time I would like to say that this tournament had a very high calibre of referees. We should be thankful to these men who give freely of their time to help in our tournament. They have a thankless hard job and our criticism doesn't make it easier. We not only should thank them but also Mr. and Mrs. Fawcett, Dot McLean and the ladies of the kitchen, rinky-dinks and the arena staff. And the countless number of men like John Flynn, George Divok, Bill Counter and Wayne Horner who practically-lived at the arena the two weeks. I know I've only mentioned a few names, there are a lot more but for lack of space I can't name them. These people made the Bantam Tournament.
