How Sterling Wusb
can help you beat the
tax man
and pile up
$1100,000.
The secret? A Sterling Trusts Regis-
tered Retirement Savings Plan.The Govern-
ment of Canada wants you to live well
when you retire. So they allow you to deduct
contributions to our Retirement Savings Plans
froM your taxable income. We pay you
compound interest on the plan, and they
don't tax that, either.
So if you contribute steadily, you can
accumulate a nice little fortune. For example,
let's say you're married with two children,
you earn $15,000 per year, and you can
contribute $1,000 per year.
Your plan will be worth well over
$100,000 in 35 years, (Based on current
income tax rates and an interest rate of
61/2 % compounded). You can contribute
more—as much as $4,000 a year or 20%
of your salary, whichever is less—or you can
contribute less, in fact, you can start a Ster-
ling Trusts Retirement Savings plan for as
little as $100. And a Sterling Trusts Plan
can often be coupled with an existing com-
pany pension plan.
You're eligible to save 1972 tax money
until March 1st,1973. Any contribution you
make to a Sterling Trusts Regis red Retire-
ment Savings Plan by March 1 is deduct-
ible from your taxable income foi 1972. That
could put you in line for a good sized rebate
in the Spring.
Don't let this opportunity slip by.

-6—CLINTON NEWS-RECORD, THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 1973
'Stangs split iteekend gitmes
After splitting two games
with Milverton over the
weekend, the Clinton Colts
return to action tonight when
they host the Listowel Jets at
the Community Centre at 8:30.
Then on Friday night, they
travel to Lucknow to play the
Sepays at 8:30.
Playing before a disappoin-
ting home crowd last Thursday
night, the Colts edged the
Milverton Four-Wheel Drives
6-5. A goal with 38 seconds left
by Don MacDougall gave the
Colts the victory. The line of
Butch Fleet, Laurie Colquhoun
and Joe Livermore ac-
cumulated 11 scoring points.
Colt marksmen were Butch
Fleet and Don MacDougall
with a pair of goals while solo
efforts went to Laurie
Colquhoun and Joe Livermore.
On Sunday afternoon, the
Four-Wheel Drives simply
overpowered the Colts and
whitewashed them 11-6.
Failure to capitalize on scoring
chances and failure to clear the
puck from in front of their own
net were the Colt's downfalls.
Joe Livermore and Greg Burns
scored a pair of goals each
while Laurie Colquhoun and
Don MacDougall had one goal
apiece.
Tonight's game is the last en-
counter between the Listowel
Jets and the Colts. Like their
games before this should be a
hard-hitting contest. Mel
Hohner and Ken "Sugar"
Meriam are both coming off in-
juries and are beginning to
work out. Their return to the
lineup is not definite but it
should be in the near future.
To help pay for their expen-
ses, the Colts are holding a
dance on February the 24th.
The Countryboys will be
playing that night at the Legion

The Clinton Mustangs
tightened the gap between them
and fourth-place Strathroy by
downing the Falcons 7.2 on
Friday night,
Both teams were suffering
with the flu and it showed in
their skating and playing
abilities. The game seemed
slow at times as players
Weren't playing up to par and
seemed to get winded fast.
Strathroy opened the scoring
but was the only time they led
in the game. Brian Kennedy
and Bill MacDougall replied
for Clinton in the first period.
Bill Crawford set up
MacDougall's goal to tie the
game, and Kennedy's goal put
the Mustangs out front to stay.
The second period saw Clin-
ton get the majority of their
penalties. They fought off
Strathroy's power play for the
second period as the Mustangs
seemed to be a man short the
whole period, sometimes two
men short,
Randy Millar and Brian
Kennedy with his second, were
the goal scorers in the second
period. Dan Colquhoun set up
both goals and Mike Anstett
helped out on Kennedy's.
The third period saw Bill
Crawford score two goals, one
coming 11 seconds after the
Falcons scored their second
goal. Tom Murray set up
Crawfords' second goal. Phil
Petrie finished off the scoring
at 15:27 of the third period,
Colquhoun and Jim Cameron
drew assists on the play.

Strathroy playess let 50 shots
go at Gary Yeomen which the
Mustangs could only come up
with 25 shots. Yeoman played
an outstanding game in net,
robbing the Strathroy
marksmen on countless oc-
casions frorn all angles and
positions.
A total of 20 penalties were
called in the geme. Thirteen of
the penalties went to Clinton.
The Tavistock Braves came
to town Sunday with nothing to
lose and is just how they
played, ending up on the better
part of a 9-7 score over the
Mustangs.
The Mustangs were
definitely not up for the game,
and didn't really get into the
game until the second period.
They were also without the ser-
vices of leading scorer Mike
Anstett, captain Gary Cum-
mings, and defenceman Pete
Thayer, It was hard to tell
whether it was the missing
players or whether the
Mustangs may have been a lit-
tle too "cocky", but it sure
showed in their playing.
Clinton opened the scoring
on a goal scored. by Tom
Murray, assisted by Jim
Cameron. Then Tavistock
broke the dam as they scored
four goals in three minutes and
18 seconds, never to look back.
Paul Johnson rounded off the
first period scoring.
The Mustangs came out in
the second period and played
the good brand of hockey
they've been known to play.
Novice hockey for Minor
Hockey Week took the form of
a tournament involving teams
from Bayfield, Blyth, Clinton
and Goderich.
The first game saw Blyth
meet Bayfield in a fairly close
game for two periods of hockey.
However in the third, Blyth
scored in rapid succession over
the smaller and younger
Bayfield team. Final score, -
Blyth 8, Bayfield 0.
In the second game Goderich
met the Clinton team in what
proved to be a real game of
frustration for Clinton as they
missed several good scaring cps'
portunities while Goderich
came up with the goals.
Jim Flemming's persistent
digging pair off in an
unassisted goal late in the
game and Steve Wilson came
up with an outstanding net
minding effort.
Game three played Saturday
afternoon was played by the
losing teams from the Saturday
morning games - thus Clinton
met Bayfield. Once again the
Clinton boys started slowly.
However, despite a fine effort
by Bayfield, Clinton came to
life when Jim Flemming scored
a nice goal late in the first
period. This game saw some
good checking and playmaking
by the Ian Flemming, Rob
Blake, and' Steve Lobb line as
Bill MacDougall scored at :58
to get the ball rolling.
Tavistock then hindered the
Mustangs by scoring two more
goals, Clinton then struck back
for three unanswered goals in
less than three minutes. Dan
Colquhoun was set up by Bill
MacDougall to start the spree,
Jim Cameron then scored with
Cal Frerrilin and. Paul Johnson
drawing assists.
Then Cal Fremlin scored on
a deflected shot from the point
after being., set up by Ron
Graham and Jim Cameron,
The score after two periods was
6-6.
Tavistock struck back early
in the third, scoring at :51, Play
then see-sawed back and forth
until Tavistock scored again at
18:18. Bill MacDougall then
scored his second of the night
15 seconds later to keep the
Mustangs in the game.
Coach Bill Weber brought
Gary Yeoman to the bench with
less than a minute for an extra
attacker, but Clinton could not
hold on to the puck and
Tavistock managed, to score an
empty net goal which went the
length of the ice. Final score: 9-
7.
The Mustangs have a tough
schedule to finish, playing 11
more games in 25 days. They
would appreciate some more
support and would like to
thank their regular supporters.
The Mustangs play away
Friday night, in Tavistock, and
host Mitchell on Sunday at 8
p, m.
Ian came up with two goals.
Other scorers were Pete An-
stett and Pete McMahon, Bob
Thompson worked hard for the
shutout in the Clinton net for
the 5-0 win.
Ian Flemming won the
hockey stick as star of the Clin-
ton team. Clinton was winner
of the Flemming Feed Mill
Consolation Trophy.
Game Four of the tour-
nament, played Saturday after-
noon, involved the winning
teams of the morning , games,
'pitting Blyth against Goderich.
This was a good fast game of
hOekeYs.` however, 'the 'Blyth
superiority was confirmed by
the final score as they won 4 to
0 and took home the Pat
Graham tournament Cham-
pionship Trophy.

The final game on Saturday
night had the Clinton Midgets
against South London Midgets.
The London team outclassed
the local boys as the final score
of 9-3 indicates, Although the
game was never in doubt, Clin-
ton certainly was not afraid of
London and handed out a few
eye-opening body checks, as
well as some very good hockey.
John Graham scored one goal
with Don McDonald and Paul
Garrow each getting an assist.
Harold (Butch) Heipel scored
two • goals, being set up each
time by Jim Thompson.
