The Rector, Rev, George Youmatoff read a bible reading and a prayer for the work of the Ladies' Guild; all repeated the Lord's Prayer. Greta Scotchmer, secretary, gave her report; which was adopted. A letter of thanks was received from Mrs. Mary Weston also thank you was received from Miss Edith Beatty of Varna, and Mr, Norm Rivers and a Christmas card and gift from Ella Bryant; also a gift from the Davison family, expressing their appreciation for the lunch provided in the Parish Hall at the time of Lyall's death. All correspondence was filed Mrs. Lorna Merner, treasurer, gave her report; which was adopted and all outstanding bills were to be paid, Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons, card and flower secretary, gave a resume of her work for the year. A few ladies on the visiting committee gave reports of their visitation s to Huronview and to the local shut-ins. Birthday money was paid by Beulah Smith, Berthena Ham- mond and the Rector. Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons, chair- man of the nominating commit- tee, presented a slate of officers for 1973. The Rector called for any other nominations from the floor; but the slate was ap- proved and accepted as follows: Past president, Mary Clark; president, Vina Parker; first vice-president, Ruby Fitz- simons; second vice-president, Maude Weston; secretary, Greta Scotchmer; treasurer, Lorna Merrier; card and flower secretary, Ruby Fitzsimons; press reporter, Greta Scotch- mer.. All members are to be on the visiting committee. The Rector proceeded with the beautiful and impressive Litany Service of Installation of Officers, reading the charges to the Officers and sister mem- bers. The president thanked all the members who had helped her during 1972 and was assured that all co-operation would be given her in 1973, We were reminded that March 2 is the World Day of Prayer and will be held this year in Trinity Anglican Church. Many members paid their yearly dues, including, Mrs. Fern. Baker, Mrs. Audrey Albiston, Mrs. Ruth Mut- zelburg, and Mrs. Margaret Wayne, who joined our Guild. Plans for the lunch for the Annual Meeting on January 18 in the Parish Hall were finalized and a beautiful but- terfly quilt top, a gift of Mrs, Mary Weston, was very much admired and Beulah Smith and Mrs. Margaret Larson were ap- pointed to purchase all necessary materials for quilting it in The Parish Hall, Mrs. Lorna Merrier will take charge of another quilt top presented to us to be com- pleted. This will also be quilted in the winter months. The next meeting will be in the Parish Hall, Tuesday evening, February 13 with Mrs. Ruby Fitzsimons as hostess, A lovely lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Beulah Smith and Maude Weston. U.C.W. The January joint meeting of the United Church Women was held in the church basement on Thursday afternoon last with a good attendance. President Carol Penhale opened the meeting with a New Year's thought. Devotion was taken by Doris Reddock, Marilyn Haw, Betty Burtch, Margaret Scotchmer and Elva Metcalf. The new study pack on India was begun and dealt with Christianity and the main points of the country, Later, a quiz was conducted and Anna Scotchmer and Grace Duggan were winners. Secretary, Anna Stirling read the minutes and treasurer, Margaret Scotchmer read a very good financial report from 1972. The Ladies had really outdone themselves and dif- ferent committees wilt benefit from their endeavours. They decided the U.C.W. will pay for the loudspeaker which accom- panies the new organ being tions are as follows: April 14,' Daffodil Tea and Bake Sale; June 30, Chicken Barbecue; Oc- tober 6, The Fall Bazaar. The Slate of Officers for 1973 are: president, Carol Penhale; first vice-president, Kathleen Siertsema; second vice- president, Doris Reddock; secretary, Anna Stirling; treasurer, Margaret Scotchmer; card and flower convener, Eleanor Watson; Unit One leader, Jean Greer, secretary, Betty .Burtch; Unit Two leader, Mildred Merrill; secretary, Marilyn Haw. The next meeting will be a pot-luck dinner, Thursday, February 1 at 1.:30 p.m, at the Church, The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction and Lunch was served. SHOWER Mrs, Donelda Sturgeon, held a kitchen shower at her home, Thursday evening, January 11 for Miss Sheryl Bennewies of Seaforth, whose marriage takes place in Bayfield, January 27 to Robert (Erickson) Irwin. After seating the bride-elect in a chair decorated with pink and white streamers and pink wedding bells, they presented her with a red carnation cor- sage, and games of fun were en- joyed. Mrs. Viola Bell won the prize for a word jumble game "The Wedding Trip" and Mrs. Ber- thena Hammond was awarded the prize for "Wedding Words." A hilarious story en- titled "The W.C." was read by Donelda Sturgeon. Mrs. Sturgeon read a very lovely bridal poem and at the con- clusion asked Sheryl to accept the many shower gifts. Misses Joanne and Jayne Sturgeon , presented Sheryl with many lovely and useful gifts for which she graciously thanked everyone. Mrs, Shirley Boyes assisted Mrs. Sturgeon in serving a delicious lunch. Guests were present from Goderich, Clinton, Seaforth, Bayfield and area. personals Mrs, Myrtle Pease and Irvin, London, spent the week-end at their village home. Mr. and Mrs. John Lindsay were in Plattsville for the weekend with their son-in-law, daughter and grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Butcher and Matthew, Mr. and Mrs. John McLeod, Port Stanley, spent the weekend with his mother and sister Mrs. L. H. D. McLeod and Dorothy. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Robinson, Randy and Scott, Goderich, visited her parents and sister, Mr.' and Mrs. Bert Greer and Patti, R.R.3, Bayfield on Satur- day. Guests at the Albion Hotel during the weekend were Messers John Keinert and Robert Mahow of Pontiac,, Michigan. Mr, and Mrs. George Kalan- zis, Birmingham, Michigan spent the weekend at their residence in the Village, Mr. Norman Brown and Vicki, London were at their cot- tage for the weekend. Mr. Bud Robinson and Mr. Calvin Scotchmer have left to resume employment in Barrie, Mr, and Mrs. Ian McLennan, Ottawa spent a couple of days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harmon, Lisa and Susie, Bay City, Michigan were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pounder and family of Lambeth at their Village residence for the weekend. Mr. Rick Westlake, who is in his second semester at Conestoga College, Kitchener, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Westlake, Catharine and Paul. W. was held at the Church on Jan. 7. The opening was in charge of Mrs, P. Pack- man and Mrs. Edgar Stoll. Mrs. Packman spoke on "Grant us to accept the thing of Life" and live one day at a time and closed with prayer. Help us to forgive. Mrs. Stoll took as her topic "India". Mm. Packman closed this part of the meeting with prayer . "Be ye kind to one another." The roll call was answered by 15 members by a product of India. The secretary's report was given and the treasurer's report also, Thank you notes were read from Mrs. Chapman, Mrs. Dallas, Mrs, McEwen and Mrs. Haugh, Mr. Burdge, Greg McGregor, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Sholdice and Mrs. Baird. The annual meeting of the Church will be held January 21. in the evenin g. Lunch will be rved, Also, the World Day of Prayer will be held at Kippen Church on March second. The money making project for „January was a silent auction which was a decided success, bunch was served by the -committee. 'The February meeting will take place at the Church on Feb, 12. The Goderich Building Cen- tre defeated the KFC Juveniles last Sunday, January 14 to pull into a tie for first place with the Juveniles, Building Centre has a 9-3-0 record for 18 points and the Juveniles, who also tied. Holmesville 6-6 last week, are 8-2-2 for 18 points, DRMCO picked up a 7.3 vic- tory over Sifto Salt last week to remain one point behind Building Centre and Juveniles with 17 points. DRMCO's record is 8-4-1. Bayfield defeated Sifto Salt 7-5 in their only game last week to move into fourth spot in the standings, Holmesville tied their only game last week with the Juveniles to drop into fifth spot in the standings with a 3- 5-3 record for 9 points. Sifto Salt, who lost twice during the past week are in the basement with a 0-10-2 record for 2 points, Dan Duncan's third goal of the game at 15:38 of the third period gave the Juveniles a 6-6 tie with Holmesville last Tuesday, January 9 in Clinton. Tim McAstocker, Jim Denomme and Brian Thomp- son scored the other Juvenile goals. John Cosgrove paced the Holmesville attack with three goals. Larry Schertzl added two and Bill Steenstra the other Holmesville goal. John Cosgrove gave Holmesville a 1.0 lead at 8:26 of the first from Bill Steenstra. Dan Duncan tied the game at 11:47 from Tim McAstocker. Jim Denomy put the Juveniles it front for the second time in OK game at 5:20 but Bill Steenstra tied the game at 7:32 with an unassisted effort. Larry Scher, tzl scored Holmesville's sixth goal 12 seconds later at 7:44. Duncan tied the game again at 15:58 from Brian Thompson to round out the scoring, Holmesville took 8 of 14 minor penalties. Juvenile goalie Don Bedour was given a 10 minute misconduct at 7:44 of the third period. Morley Leeking scored threE goals in the second game to lead Bayfield to a 7-5 victory over Sifto Salt. Kai Merner, Gord Fisher, Jack Kellough and Don Johnston scored the other Bayfield goals. Wayne Draper scored three for Sifto Salt and Ron Whetstone two.
