HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1973-01-04, Page 2Gus Boussey, General Manager of Clinton PUC, shows that a 150-pound manhole cover is floating on the surface of Clinton's overloaded sanitary sewer system at the end of Gordon Street last Sunday. Nearly four inches of rain was dumped on Clinton on Saturday and early Sunday, causing the water to back up into nearly 80 homes in Clinton. The problem will be alleviated when the new sewer system, shown partially completed on the left, is put into operation late this year. He told of the many services his department has to offer to the students of the county--and their parents in the elementary and secondary schools and the schools for trainable retarded. Judging from the questions put to Mr. Kenwell following his discourse, the ladies were quite interested in learning more about this particular field. New Year's Day after spending the holidays at the Island of Bar- bados. They stayed at the Blue Horizon apartments, overlooking Accra Beach. On this tropical island the temperature varies only from 75° — 80°, the year round. The Middletons toured the island in a jeep called a moke, especially for tourists. The island is eight miles by 20 miles and the population 80 percent colored and 90 percent literate and also pleasant and articulate. On Christmas Day the Mid- dletons were pleasantly sur- prised to welcome their cousin Charles Middleton, son of Mr. and Mrs, Hugh Middleton of Toronto. Charles flight had put down on his NIliay to the .Virgin Islands.
