New Era Begins in Communicatio Electronic Switching Introduced A new era in Canadian com munications ibegan Monday when Canada's first electronic ’switching system was inaugur ated1 by Quebec Premier Daniel Johnson. The Premier placed the first official ESS telephone call to Andrew Kniewasser,, Generial Manager of Expo. Using “Add- On”,~-one of the features of the new system, he later dialed the telephone number of Hon. Robert H. Winters, Federal Minister of Trade and Com merce, in Otttaiwa, and estab lished a .three-way conversation. Introduction of the new sys tem by. the Bell Telephone Com- pany of Canada is believed to be the most important advance in Telephony since dial telephones appeared1, in the early 1920’s. Technically known as No. 1 ESS, it was built and installed by the Northern Electric Com pany. ■ Initially, the system will be available only to subscribers at the Expo site. Later, it will serve downtown Montreal. Additional .units of ESS will be installed in other locations of Bell Canada’s Territory in Ontario and Quebec through the coming years. Installation of am ESS,,fe already under way in Toronto, where a unit is,sche duled to go into Service in 1968. r" DON’T FORGET YOUR FINE TOOTH COMB BOOKS "Anyone Can Make A Million" by Morton Shulman ..........$5.95 "The Doctors" by Martin L, Gross ............. $8.75 "Church Without God"- by Ernest Harrison ..........$4.50 "Trail of The Black Walnut" by G.
