Reminds me of the Story of the coloured evangelist who was conducting a service. He was about half way through his sermon when an over-ripe cabbage plunked at his feet, He went, right on and shortly an over-ripe tomato smacked him in the face. There was,a long pause, then he took a deep breath and said “My .friends there will be ten minutes of ‘ religion and then there’ll be the d----------- nigger fight you’ve ever seen! •Peace on earth when there is no peace!-------when there ■is war and bombs and dead and wounded on the battle fields? Goodwill towards Men . ... . When through our carelessness and disregard for others we kill something like forty people With our cars each weekend? Yes we are concerned! We are putting a real push on the car manufacturer to build safer cars. This may well reduce fa talities and injuries but it will not reduce accidents. In fact it may encourage, more care lessness because we feel our oar Will, protect us. Shouldn't we be trying a great deal harder to reduce the accidents rather than emphasiz ing the need for reducing the injuries caused by i accidents. Just recently there was a Ty program which showed how facts were being obtained to discover the amount of alcohol that induces "dangerous driving. The results were most inter esting. The drivers tested were highly skilled race-car drivers. Varying amounts of alcohol in the blood Stream up to .08 per cent were used. The deterior ation in the driving was" ap palling. We have long been of the opinion that alcohol reduced our .physical ability to drive, safely, but while this is true, a much more serious factor is the change in attitude that al cohol brings about. In other words we become- arrogant, ag gressive and disregard our fel low man. Would we not do well to mould our attitude to the “Spirit of Christmas”. An active attitude of “Good1 Will toward Men” would make a tremend ous change in our weekend news report. Not only would it reduce the sorrow and suffer ing, it would quickly reduce our car insurance premiums Which have been rising so steadily each year. Yes we-know costs of mediical care and hospitalization have increased as have repairs to oars but doctors and hospitals don’t cost anything if you are not injured. Neither do you or your insurance company have to face large repair bills if your car is undamaged. What Should we $ Xs Perhaps a little the pupils was just a "little ref tarded. He didn’t have much to say, ' a bigger ’boy would be most suitable. No act ing was required. All he had to do was send Joseph and Mary -away to the stable. ■ The'play went along beauti fully, the audience was enjoy ing the old familiar scenes. The innkeeper was standing firmly in the door. No! there is no room in* the inn! They would find some shelter in the stable.’’ Wearily Joseph and Mary turn down the path toward the stable. Everything is going in the time-honoured way. But no! What has gone wrong? Quickly the innkeeper takes a step for ward, “Joseph! Mary! Come back! You can have my room in -the inn! ' ’ # * * * Some said the play had been ruined; others maintained it wais the greatest they had ever seen. Can the Christ.
