(Photo by Mrs. Audrey Bedchamber) . ----_-----o----------- School Bus Law Although the new law, con­ cerning stopping for school buses, has been in effect for over a month, reports coming in to the Ontario Department of Transport indicate that the new law needs emphasizing. There is still confusion in the minds of some motorists. The new rules are really not too different from the old law in', that for eight years vehicles fallowing were required to stop and vehicles approaching were required to slow down when a school bus was stopped with flashing lights. Guest speaker was Mrs. Einar Eglils- son of Woodstock, a vice-presi­ dent of the’ London conference United 'Church Women, Using the theme of the meeting “Our Purpose, Our Response" as her subject, she asked members to consider their, personal response to this purpose, not only in. the organization, but also in the World. ■- Mrs. Bert Gibbings told of the recent vislilt she and her husband made to Holland and the British Isles. Of special in­ terest was- their visit to the Island of Guernsey. .Members also enjoyed seeing coloured slides of their trip. Plans were made for partici­ pation in the Annual Bazaar to be hold Saturday, December 3. A social period was en joyed iby members and guests, with Mrs. John Gibson, Mrs. Bob Jervis and Mrs Brock Olde as host­ esses. accompanied by Mrs. Lepping­ ton and her. daughter-in-law Mrs. Jack Leppington to Eknv and Wingham- Mr, and Mrs, Thomas Sower-, by, RR 2, Goderich, were in Waterloo, Saturday to attend convocation at Waterloo Lu- heran University, where their son, Grant received his Bache­ lor of Arts Degree, Mr, .and Mrs. Alex McKean, Miniota, Manitoba, visited Mr. and Mrs. Daytid Dales, 208 Townsend Street a few days last week. Mr, and Mrs*, Mc­ Kean have just returned from two and one-half month's trip to England, France, Geamany and Spain. They visited their son and daughter-in-law, .Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKean and son Kevin in France. Mrs. Mc­ Kean is the former Sharon Dales. While itobring Germany they visited Mr. and Mrs. James Dales. Sherriff Harry Sturdy, Gode­ rich, bought the -.small bell used, in the class rooms at- recess time for $4.50. The furniture and seats were all sold by auctioneer Harold Jackson with seats going lower than 25 cents each. They had been placed new in this school about 40 years ago1. Trustees at that time were the late George Bean, John J. Wilson and Dr. B. C. Weir. Tables, cupboards, ladders, electric clocks all sold quickly as the Hullett Township school area trustees cleared the school Which had been built in 1912. The building had been sold recently to Mr. and Mrs. Law­ rence Plaetzer on whose farm., the school had been built. ’ Trustee Maurice Bean was in Charge of the sale at this school sometimes called the Auburn school, one mile east of the village.
