The 98th anniversary of the Auburn Baptist Church, will be held next Sunday, September. 11 with special services at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Guest speak­ er wiill be Pastor Adolph Hahn of Elmvale. Special music will be supplied by William Chase, Goderich, and David Medley, Stratford. A cordial invitation is extended to all to attend these services. Mr, and of Indiana with Mr. Raithiby. Mc- Gilvary, Walkerton, visited on Monday with Mrs. Bert Allen. Miss Edith Beacom returned last Tuesday after a three week trip to the West Coast. Layman's Sunday was ob­ served last 'Sunday in the Unit­ ed Church. A layman’s choir as­ sisted with the service and a duet, “Drifting”, was: sung by Frank -and Peter Postill. Dori Barker of King City gave the address entitled “Committment and Implications”. Floyd McAsh of Hamilton visited over the weekend at the home of his parents; Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McAsh. Mir, and Mrs. Don Barker, Ruth, Lome and Glenn, of King Cilty, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mc­ Clymont and Michael of Bur­ ford and' Miss Joan McClymont and Miiss Doreen Hawden of London visited over the week­ end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McClymont. Services in Varna United Church will be withdrawn next Sunday, September 11 owing to Anniversary Services at Goshen United Church. W’ Laughlin, Paris, Mrs. Roy Cope, Sheila and Carol, Lon­ don, Mr. and Mrs, Fred Toll re­ ceived a telegram last week telling them of the safe arrival of their son, Stewart, Mrs. Toll and family at Nairobi, Kenya, South Africa. The canvas for the blind will be held this weekend in the village. . Mr. and Mrs. Donald Plun­ kett and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Plunkett entertained their par­ ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Plunkett at the home of Mr. and Mils. Donald Plunkett last week. The surprise dinner and social time was to honour them on their 45th wedding anniver­ sary. Eighteen relatives attend-, ed and after the dinner cards were enjoyed. Donald congratu­ lated his parents and gifts were presented to them to mark the occasion. Anniversary cake w'as cut and lunch served. Group two was in charge of devotions. Those taking part were Mrs. Grant Webster, Mrs. Harvey Hayter, Mrs. Melvin Webster and Mrs. Roy Elliott. Miiss Darlene Hayter played a piano- solo. Guest speaker, Mrs. Wiilliiams- Eatwell of Bedford, England, spoke about life in England’ and added her impressions on Can­ ada. She said she found the Canadian people very kind and friendly. Roll call was answered with a favorite qulil't pattern. Forty-two calls have been made to sick and shut-ins dur­ ing the summer. ( , Reports were given regarding the Church supper which will take place the first week in October and the booth at the International Plowing Match at Seaforth. William Fingland, D.D., Niagara Falls, a former resident of Auburn, was guest speaker at the annual memorial service at Hope Ohapel Cemetery in Hullett Township last Sunday. Niagara Falls, at the annual memorial services held at Hope ■ Chapel cemetery last Sunday afternoon. Rev. Fingland paid high tri­ bute to- the early pioneers of Hul'lett Township and stated that these memorials on God’s Acre record the good things that were done. He urged all to be proud of their heritage. He told of the various chapels in the area which the pioneers had established within walking distance of thelir home and said that religion and education was their main concern. Colin Fing­ land of Wingham assisted his brother at the service. Mrs. Elgin Jostling of Lon- desboro was the jorganiist and an interdenominational choir from Auburn assisted in the music of the service. • Offering was received by Kenneth Hunking. William Hunking, chairman o-f the cemetery board, spoke a few words of thanks.
