Two Homers - Help Midgets Whip Hensail > On Friday, July 15 at Clinton Community Park, the Clinton Degilon Midgets continued their winning ways by whipping Hen­ sail 15-1. Don Bartliff Won his second game of the year, yielding pnly one hit and striking out ten batters, in a five-inning contest called because or darkness. Cam Colquhoun led the hit­ ting attack with Ms first homer of the season and he also con­ tributed two singles -to up liis batting average. Allan Howes and John Irwin contributed a double and a single apiece. Rick Fremlin also contributed his first homer oif the' year to the big 'run. spree. Other hitters were Larry Pickett with a triple, Pon Bartliff with a triple and Dave Johnson with a double. Over Listowel For Sixth Victory On Tuesday night the Clinton Midgets' kept their unbeaten Streak as they beat Listowel 13-6. He struck out the first batter and forced the next one to ground out. Howes received credit for the victory, thus win­ ning his second game of the season. Each member of toe Clinton midget pitching corps of Larry Pickett, Don 'Bartliff and Allan Howes have a won-lost record of two' victories and no defeats. Teeing off'at 8:00 am., the 14 boys ranging in age from 10 to 16 played 18 holes before re­ turning to toe Club House for lunch and trophy awards. Be­ fore -lunch, Bert Gray, Qliinton Public School .principal, asked for a period of silence in mem­ ory of the late Stewart Cook. 1 Lloyd Stevens of Toronto', who addressed the boys, traced the history of toe Stewart Cook trophy, and paid tribute to the fine. athletic prowess of Mr. Cook. Mr. Gray presented a replica qf the trophy to Gordy Beut­ tenmiller and other awards, donated by Fred Hulls, owner professional of toe course. Wan­ ners were:, first flight, 15-16 year old. He also warmly thanked Mfs. Hulls for the bounteous lunch sihe had provided. Goderich Rink Boyes And Doig In Ontario Open Two local golfers, Bev. Boyes of Toronto and Clinton, and Ken Doig of Seaforth, competed in the 44th annual Ontario Open Golf Tournament played in Kingston last week, Doug Mos’s'op, ‘ 42-year-old amateur from Toronto won the 54-hole championship with a one-under­ par 209. Bev’s 36-hote total of 156. was four over the cut-off and he did not reach the ..finals'. However, Doig did survive toe cut-off and reached the final mound. Doig ported a 54-hole total of 228. j----------o---------— Eric Collins Shoots 48 At Bayfield Fred Hulls, owner, of toe Bayfield-Clinton Golf Course-, reports that on Tuesday even­ ing,. '14 12 ‘ 12 10 10 4 2 0 A Goderich rink, skipped by Earl Allison, with Pete Basset, won the Hiram Walker trophy at the men’s doubles tourna­ ment at Clinton bowling greens last Wednesday, July 13.' The same rink won the trophy here in 1964 ’ and another Goderich rink skipped by Harry Shackle­ ton, with Dr. Harry Ball were the 1965 winners. This year they placed fifth. Four Clinton rinks were en­ tered1 but failed to make the top prizes, in th e six who all received Twenty rinks competed annual tourney.
