at Hullett Music Festival last week with a mark of 84. They sang <’They Call
It Canada.” Mrs, Dorothy Powell is the teacher, The prize for this class is the
Hullett Township Federation of Agriculture shield.

spend the lunch hour at Story
book Gardens. June 9 was set

Charge. Mrs. Lyle Murray was

two humorous skits; duettfnum-

The death occurred in. Clin
ton Public Hospital on1 Wednes
day, May 18 of Mrs. Frank
Layton, after a short illness.
Formerly Mary "'Louise Pepper,
daughter of -Mr. and Mrs. Roger
Pepper, she was born in Tuck-
ersmith Township, November
12,. 1882 and sfthl made her
home there after she was mar
ried to Francis Albert Layton
on February 5, 1908.
Forty-five years ago they
moved to Clinton and the last
few years Mrs. Layton lived on
James Street.
She was an active member
of Ontario. Street Church and
took an active part there until
her later years.
The funeral was held from
Ball and. Mutch Funeral Home
on Saturday, May 21. Rev. G.
L. Mills officiating with inter
ment in Clinton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Walter Pep
per, William Pepper; Norman
Pepper, Alden Grieb, George
Layton and Ed1 .-Layton. Flower
bearers were Don Crich, Frank
McGregor, Doug Thorndike and
Cliff Ashton.
Surviving are one son, Elliott
of Brucefield; i a. daughter,
Irene, predeceased her in 1956.
She was predeceased by her,
husband in 1963.
Mrs. Layton is also survived
by brothers John Pepper, Kip
pen; Fred and Roy of Clinton;
one sister, Mrs. Howard (Rose)
Crich, Clinton, and, predeceased
by a brother, Albert, in August
1965; also survived by three
grandchildren, Mrs. Gerald
Flynn, Rager Layton and
George VahHome, and one
great grandchild, Lori Flynn.
Persons attending from a
distance were Mrs. John Lay-
ton and family, London; Mrs.
George Layton, Exeter; Mr. and
Mrs. Percy Douglas, Meaford.

Church. Mrs. William- Cox was
organist and accompanied solo

sang “The Wadding , Prayer”,
“Oh! Father ail Creating” and
"The Lord’s Prayer”.
GiVen in marriage by' her
father, the bride wore a for
mal floor-length, gown of white
peau de faille, fashioned on
Empire lines, with scooped
neckline and ’short sleeves
banded in Guipure lace, and
pearl trim; the back featured
a full chapel train. Her pillbox
headpiece of matching material
held a four-tiered illusion veil.
She carried' a crescent of pink
sweetheart rases and white
stephanotis with trailing ivy.
Miss Sharon Lockhart, sister
of the bride, was maid of
honour.

London and Miss Colleen Lock
hart, Gddteriich Township, wore
floor-length turquoise peau die
sole sheaths with. Guipure lace
accentuating the empire waist
line, and matching accessories.
They carried white carnations
and pink ’mums, *
Edward Laithwaite, Goderich,
was groomsman and ushers
were Scott McTaggart, Strat
ford 'and Robert Renshaw,
Troy, Mich.
The reception was held in
the church parlours, where the
table with the bride’s cake was
decorated with candelabra and
pink and white flowers.
The bride’s mother received
guests dressed in a pale pink
Arnel slub sheath dress with
bodice trim of guipure lace over
taffeta .and matching accessor
ies; her corsage was deep pink
roses.
The groom’s mother was
dressed in a Miami blue sheath
of French crepe, white acces1-
sories and a corsage of white
roses. - >
For a wedding trip to the
Southern "United ’ States, the
bride left' in a plain mint green
sheath dress, '’white lace coat
and white accessories, and red
rose corsage.
The young couple will make
their home in Owen Sound.
Guests were present at _ the
wedding from Troy, ' Mich.;
Owen Sound, Toronto, Aylmer,
London and Stratford.
A series of showers were
held for the bride prior, to her
wedding: Mrs. Donald Harris
and Mrs. H. Baxter held a
'shower at the home of 'Mrs.
Jack Gilbert; Mrs. R. Miller,
Mrs., A. Corriveau, Mrs. C.
Perdue and Mrs. M, Irving had
a shower at the home of Mrs.
Corriveau in Clin ton; and the
employees of the CIA office in
Owen Sound, where the bride
worked, gave a shower for her.
Trousseau Tea
Mrs. Lockhart entertained at
a trousseau tea for her daugh
ter on Saturday, May 14, with
the groom’s mother, Mrs, H.
Baxter assisting 'in greeting-
the guests. The three grand
mothers 'present, Mrs, Sallows,
Mrs. J. Lockhart and Mrs.
Milter poured tea .and serving
were Janet Lockhart and Mrs.
Edward Wise.
In the evening, Mrs. Al Finch
and. Mrs. Scott McTaggart
poured tea. The girls showing
the trousseau were Sharon
Lockhart, Pat Aillin, Dianne
Harris and Colleen. Lockhart.

held in Holmesville United
Church on Thursday evening,
May 19. Guests included Rev.
and Mrs. C. Park, the organist
and choir, the Sundfay School
teachers-, and officers, Messen
ger leaders, Hi-C councillors
and the men who attend' to
the heating of the church from
week to week.

tures of a trip to Vancouver
and through the U.S. to Cali
fornia, as well as many local
scenes. ■ .
Mrs. W. Gliddon expressed
thanks to Mr. Bissett for shar
ing . his picture-taking hobby
with the group. Rev. C. Park
thanked the ladies of the con
gregation, who were responsible
for the delightful evening.
Messengers Meet
The Messengers met at the
Sunday School rooms on Friday
afternoon. A hymn with Laure-
lanne Bond at the piano opened
the meeting and Sharon Potter
read the scripture. The offer
ing was taken by Jo Anne Cook

period.
