Farewell Party For McClinchey Family, Zurich A surprise party Was held the home of Mr. and Mrs, Rus sel Grainger, RR .2, Zurich, for Mr. and Mrs. Jack McClinchey, Who recently moved from Zur ich to Clinton. About 70 friends of the Mc- Clinchey family, mostly mem bers of the congregation of the Evangelical United Brethem Church, Zurich, gathered for an outdoor barbecue. The scripture lesson was read by Airs. Thomas Haggitt and the mission study was' given by Mrs. George. Schneider, Mrs. Thomas Johnston gave a read ing, “Little things that matter in our liyes”. Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell was organist for the meeting. Mrs- John Daer gave the topic on “'Life down the McKenzie River’”. Mrs. Ed. Davies gave more readings on Mothers. The president, Mrs, Orvai McPhee had charge of the bus iness period and minutes were read by • the secretary, Mrs; John Daer. The financial state ment was given by the treas urer, Mrs, Andrew Kirkconnell. Correspondence was read and the film on Jamie was dis cussed. An invitation to the Guild from Mhs. Lloyd Hum phreys in Dublin was accepted. The travelling apron received ■ a penny for each letter in As cension Day and the roll, call was answered by a Bible verse containing the word, Mother. It Was decided to hold the June meeting in the church and have a house-cleaning bee. Group four was in charge of devotions; Mrs; Mervyn Hay ter gave the call to worship. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Lee McConnell and medi tation was given by Mrs. Ron ald Taylor. A monologue was read by Mrs. William Dowson, “Man aging the Church supper right”. Mrs. George Reid took up the offering and Mrs. William Dawson dedicated it, The Bible Study was led by Mrs. Frank Hill and Mirs. Gordon Hill of fered the prayer. The president, Mrs. Mervyn Hayiter took charge during the business period. S’ixty-four hos pital and shut-in . calls1 were made during the past month. At the close of the meeting a sale of plants was .held with Mirs. Fred Reid of Clinton act ing as auctioneer. Group three served lunch afterwards.# * * A large group of United Church young people went to Wingham on Suhday afternoon last to assist with “Sing Time”. A variety concert was held' on Monday evening of this week in the township hall and was enjoyed by all. A baptismal service was held last Sunday morning in the United Church with Rev. H. Currie of Hensail in charge, when children of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Chuter, Mu and Mrs. Don Forrest 'and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Wilson were baptized. r Auburn Car Accident Claims Life Of Teacher Mary I. The date for the smorgas bord supper was set for Wed nesday, June 15, Mrs. Tebbutt conducted a contest bn com monly used Biblical phrases, Lunch was served by Mrs. I, Tebbutt, Mrs. Jack Tebbutt and Mrs. Jim Lobb. Homemaking Club The Happy Holmesville Hat ters met 'at the old school on Saturday afternoon. Nancy Ginn, president, led in the re peating of the 4-H pledge. The minutes were read by Ele Wiammes and Sandra Wise call ed the roll, Mrs. Yeo led the discussion on the selection and pare of gloves, belts’ and jewel lery. The remainder of the aft ernoon was spent working at hats and scarves. Bella Richard of New Cum nock, Scotland, who is ait pres ent Visiting with her uncle, John Houston, Mrs. Houston and farn'jly. All four were rushed to Clin ton Public Hospital where Miss Mary I. Houston passed away about ll;30 p.m, Miss Houston, was at her home recuperating from a bad car accident in winch she was injured 14 months ago. Barn in West Wawanash Township in 1915, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs; John Houston. She attended SS 3, Colbome and Stratford Teach-' er’s College, She taught school at S'S 2, Wawanosh, South Por cupine, S'S 5, Hulleitt. For the past 18 years she had been on the staff of the Hamil ton Board of Education teach ing home economics. She was a member of the MacNabb Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, where she was an ar dent WMS worker, Besides her sorrowing par- .ents she is survived by sisters, Miss Jean Houston1, Toronto; Miss Frances - E. Houston, at home, but formerly of London and Miss Jean Jamieson, also an aunt Miss Olive Young. She was predeceased by one brother, Janies Young Houston, who died in active service in 1943. The funeral Was held on Tuesday afternoon .with burial talcing place in Colbome Ceme tery. Beacom presided and opened the meeting with the theme “The Christian Home”. Mrs. Ken Hulley and Mrs. Jack Lee took charge. of the study period and Mrs, Stan Lyon gave an interesting re port 'of her daughter’s work in Kenya, where she is a mission ary nurse. .Lunch was served by Mrs. Glen Carter and Mrs, Dave Anderson. -----------o----------- Young Scottish Junior Farmer Visiting Huron Three English, four Scottish and two Irish young fanners arrived in Montreal on the “SS Carinthila” on April 26. They will be visiting Junior Farmers in Ontario until July 22. William J. McConachie, 23, a member of the Scottish As sociation of Young Farmers, visited last week with Ross Veitch, RR 2, Brussels, a mem ber of the. North Huron Junior Farmers. William' assisted his father ■and brother on the family farm where they specialize in fat tening cattle and growing bar- ‘ley. He is a member of the Nairnshire Junior Agricultural Club and is interested in public speaking, enjoys travel and meeting people. William will be staying with Don McKercher, 'RR 1, Dublin, Provincial Junior Farmer Director for Huron County, until ■ May 24.
