The Lions Club sponsored midget hockey team advanced in OMHA playoffs as they de­ feated Seaforth last week 12-5 in a home and home goals to count series. Word Was receiv­ ed Wednesday noon that' the midgets’ next opponents will be Listowel and the opening game will be played in Clinton Lions Arena on Saturday, February 19, commencing at 8:00 p.m. The Clinton team has lost only .two games' this season and deserve some fan-support in their upcoming series against Listowel. The second game of Legion Juveniles Start Playoffs Here Tonight The Clinton Legion sponsor­ ed juvenile hockey team finish­ ed in second spot in the five- team WOAA double schedule league, Mitehell finished in first place with Seaforth third and Wingham fourth. The Legion Juveniles begin a two but of three series again- “ st fourth place Whigham in Clinton Lions Arena tonight (Thursday) at eight o’clock. The 'previous game between these two teams ended in a 7-7 tie on Clinton Minor Hockey Day. Cam Colquhoun dominated the scoring from) the 16:58 mark of the first period as he scored unassisted and went on to score the remainder of the Clinton goals, picking up three in the second period and' two in the third for a total of six in the game. With Colquhoun supply­ ing the scoring punch, Clinton’s defense played a strong game and the visitors couldn’t get an offense going. Clinton 4 — Seaforth 2 The return game in S'eaforth on Saturday night was a rug­ ged, hard fought .affair marred • by numerous -flare-ups and mis­ conduct penalties. The Ponies navy meet Mitchell in a best two put of three serj.es with the opener being played at Clinton Lions Arena tonight (Thurs­ day) at 6:30 p.m. The second game is. scheduled for Tuesday, February 22 in Mitchell. On February 9, in Seaforth, the Clinton Pee Wees opened the scoring at the 6:00 mark of the first period when Mike Anstett scored on a pass from Gary Cummings and Doug O§- born. In the second period Os- born spared the winner from Anstett and he also scored ar gain in the third period, assist­ ed by Wayne Cantelon. At Clinton Lions Arena on February 12 in the return game Gary Cummings scored twite for the Ponies with singles go­ ing to Brian Lahgille, Mike Am s'tett .and Barry Edgar. On Friday, February 11 the Rangers defeated the Adastrai Park white 'team 3-1 in a game played at RCAF Clinton arena. Ranger goal scorers were Ron Lobb, John Lepptogton and John Gibbtogs and McConnell scored for Adastrai Park. The Maple Leafs defeated the Bayfield Pee Wees 5-4 on Feb­ ruary 9. Future Games The Clinton Kinsmen Pee Wees are back in action again with three teams playing a schedule of games against teams from Adastrai Park and Bayfield. The revised lineups Central Huron Secondary School boys’ basketball teams ran into some tough opposi­ tion when they took on the junior and senior teams from London Central to exhibition games played at CHSS on Wednesday, February 9. The Clinton senior team, which has been undefeated in the Huron-Perth Conference, drop­ ped a. 68-48 decision to the city boys'. In the junior contest, the locals were outclassed to a one-sided 60-22 game. Both CHSS squads were outplayed around the 'back- boards where their taller op­ ponents' had a decided advan­ tage. One London Central senior was reported to be 6'7” tail. The local seniors how­ ever were superior in the foul shot department. Brad Dutot was the leading scorer .in the senior game, picking up 17 points' on three foul shots and seven 2-pointers. Clare Magee scored 13 paints for CHSS, Bryan Lavtis 8, Larry Pickett 6, Fred Jewson and Rolfe Cooke, 2 each. London Central’s McLaren was the bug. gun in the junior contest with 22 points. One lanky forward, according to rumour, measured 6’ 7”. ■ ________________________ (News-Record Photo) Mite Hockey This Weekend The Fourth Annual Mite Hockey Tournament for boys up to eight years of age will be held at RCAF Station Clin­ ton on Saturday, February 19, with eight teams participating: Detroit Roostertaiils, Londoon Oakridge, RCAF Clinton, For­ est, Goderich, Seaforth, Exeter ■and Zurich. Sergeant G. A. Sinker is chairman of the Mite Hockey Tournament .Committee and co-ordinator for the activities'. The tournament is a dlay long ■affair with ten gamete' played. Between games each team will be entertained to the Physical Training Centre where movies, sports facilities and refresh­ ments will be available. 8 a.m.—Goderich, Seaforth 9 a.m.—Detroit, RCAF 'Clinton 10 a.m,—Exeter, Oakridge 11 a.m.—Forest, Zurich Playoffs in the afternoon. At half time Cen­ tral was leading Goderich by a score of 19 to 15. The game continued to be close until the last two minutes of regulation time When Central Huron .was up on top by 6 points'. At this time Central’s high scorer for the day Nick Poppenk with 23 received his fifth fold of the game and was forced to leave. Brian Smith for Goderich made the foul shots and a basket to reduce Central’s lead to two. With two seconds left in regulation time a Central player again fouled Brian Smith. Smith made the two foul' shots to tie the'score 41-41 at end of regulation time. With Nick Poppenk out of action, the situation looked grim for. Central. Jeff Shaddick who suffered1 a badly sprained ankle in their game with’ St. Marys scored five points in the last minute of the overtime period to win the game for Central. Along with his five points in overtime, Jeff scored 10 points in regulation time for a total of 95 points in 4% games. Other scorers for. Clinton were John Hoy with 4, Jerry Lobb with 3 and Gregory Croijye with 1. This de­ fense has proven very success­ ful during regular season games, holding their opposition to 142 while scoring 338 points on offense. Although Goderich had the advantage of height Central was able to control the play by excellent ball con­ trol. Clare Magee, Central Huron’s highest scorer with 115 points, played' an excellent game check­ ing and' holding Goderich’s high ■scorer Ed Curry to only 7 points. This Win over Goderich as­ sures Central with first place in Huron-Perth , Conference. Central Huron’s last game of the schedule will be against Stratford Northwestern on Wed1., Feb. 16 in Stratford. This year Central Huron' will be host of the tournament on Sat., Feb. 26 Whicih will decide the Huron- Perth Champion which then will go on to WOSA the follow­ ing Friday evening and' Satur­ day.
