THURSDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 30, 1950 Maroons Win Two Cage Tussles But They’re On The Losing End ISver hear of a winning team team on, the losing end of the stick? Well, that’s the way it is with the Maroons. Opening fir© in the local cage series, the Maroons hit the win column twice while losing once to Centralia RCAF. But under their handicap it’s just imposs ible for them to break even financially. Here’s the situation. iMaroons are p la y 1 n g their games in the Exeter Arena where there is little or no accommoda tion for spectators, So, that's a financial bust. Qn the other hand, the eagers can use the specious new gym in the South Huron District High School for their league games. But, the area board set these conditions which are almost pro hibitive—cost is $25 per night and the Maroons can’t have any practice sessions. It’s1 not as if the Maroons haven’t made a name for them selves because last year they captured the QBA Junior “B” Championship. And the team isn’t strictly an Exeter outfit either, The players come from Zurich, Hay Township, Stephen, Usborne, Lucan—i n fact the whole area. So 'that’s the reason the boys are disappointed. They bring honour to the district but they can’t get accommodation or co operation for their team with repect to the high school. And until they do, they’re beating their heads against a brick wall. However, the Maroons hope that the South Huron School Board will have a change of heart before the team goes bank rupt. G. A. G. 1, 1 4 10. was •St. W. O’Brien A. Gord Far row’s charges led 28-24 at the half but were four points down with a minute to go in the game. Then Bill O’Brien, of Zurich, hit the hoop for seven points (three baskets and a free throw) to clinch the game. It was a stir ring struggle throughout.
