STATION ST. PHONE 423 Creditan Church Holds Rally,Day Rally Day was observed in United Church on Sunday mor­ ning with service held in the church auditorium led by Rev. H. Currie, The Junior Choir con­ tributed two selections and little Miss Judy Halward and Robert Galloway sung solos. Recitations were given by George Smith, Marlene King, Betty Brock, Mar­ garet Lawson, Marilyn Jory and Marie Parkinson. The story, "Healing of the Nations, was dramatized by several young ladies and a prayer poem given by Patricia Chambers. Miss Win- nifred Mack sang a very appro­ priate solo, W.M.S and W.A. The ’W.M.S. and W.A. of the United Church resumed activities for the fall season with a com­ bined meeting held in the Church School room. Devotional •period was conducted by Mrs. G. Zwicker. Scripture portions were read by Mrs. S. King and Mrs. C. Pratt. Prayer was offered by Mrs. W. Mack and Study Book on Japan was reviewed by Mrs. Currie, who also conducted the W.M.S, business. Plans were made for thank- offering meeting to be held in October when the Society will entertain members of 'the. Shipka and Brinsley societies. W.A. business was presided over by Mrs. Zwicker, reports ot committees were given and let­ ters of appreciation read from shut-ins. Annual bazaar date was set for November 18. One new member was welcomed into the society. Hostesses for the after­ noon were Mrs. G. Stevenson, Yearley, Mrs. L. Hill A. Pfaff. Day services will be the Evangelical U.B. at High Standard The Children’s Aid Society of Huron County, meeting last Wednesday was told that the So­ ciety had maintained its stand­ ing in "B" category by the De­ partment of Child Welfare. Superintendent Mrs, M. Chaf­ fee reported 123 children are in care of the Society, boys sent away on vacation or camp proved to be useful as well as happy. Letters of appreciation were au­ thorized to be sent to Goderich and Wingham Lions Club, for their assistance in this work. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Holtz­ man of Detroit called on friends in town during the week-end. Mrs. Charles Green spent a few days this week in Rochester, Mich. Mrs. A. Groves has returned to her home in Winnipeg after a pleasant visit with her daugh­ ter, Mrs. J. W. Morgan, and Mr. Morgan. Roll call, minutes and dis­ cussion period were held. The committee displayed a few pieces of kitchen equipment they pur­ chased. There will be a special meeting to pack the bale on Thursday evening, September 28, at Mrs. T. Collins. Meeting closed with prayer. Refreshments were served by hostess and committee. Mrs. Mervin Carter has turned to Hurondale School another term. Mrs. Scanlon of Lucan has turned to Neil’s School, No. McGillivray, for another term. Miss No. 3, Miss at No. Miss is at No. 7, McGillivray. Mrs. Fred Simpson was a guest on Saturday to a luncheon when her daughter, Mrs. Wesley I Revington, Lucan, entertained. Congratulations to Mrs. Arthur Cunningham, who won the sec­ ond prize in "Name the Sound’’ contest over CFPL radio station on Monday, September 11. Mrs. Aimer Hendrie is spend­ ing a few weeks with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Downing, in Chatham. Mr. George Cunningham had. the misfortune to break his arm last Monday. He was a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospital for a few days, but has now returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Grundy of Toronto called to visit his father’s old home also Nursery Cemetery. Mr. Jack M c E w e n lives on Gundy farm. Mr. Billie and Miss Aggie Northgrave visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Northgrave, Courtland, also their neice, Mrs. Albert Curtis, of Courtland. Mr. Karl O’Neil has returned home from a business trip to Maple Creek, Sask., with Mr. Wesley and Don ’’Revington and John Park of Lucan. Mr. Bylie, layman of London, took the service at the United Church, September 10. > Mrs. L. A. Kelmen received news of her granddaughter, Jean D. Houston, of St. Catharines being awarded the silver medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, receiving highest marks in the Province of Ontaria in Grade 7 for piano. She is 11 years old and will receive the silver medal in October. The bride* Mirian Mary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie, groom James Wilson, son of Rev. and Mrs. Johnston of Mitchell, are both graduates of Western University. Mrs. M. Dieded and daughter Hazel, R.N., of Flower Hospital, Toledo, spent a few days with Mrs. L. A. Kilmen. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stainton and daughter, Ruth Anne, of London, CpI. and Mrs. Foster and Leslie of Centralia were guests of Mr. and Mrs, H. Mur- less Sunday evening. Mrs. T. Tomes of Hamilton has returned home after spend­ ing a couple of weeks with her grandchildren, while Mrs. E. Tonies was in Victoria Hospital and who returned home last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. Jarvie of Windsor spent the week-end with their daughter, Mrs. Donald Rev­ ington, Rev. L. C. Harrison is spend­ ing a few days in Bayfield. Shipka Native Dies In Alberta The death of Mrs, Hugh Mc­ Phee occurred, in the Castor Hos­ pital Tuesday, August 29, in her sixty-first year, Mrs, McPhee was born in Shipka, Huron County, Ontario, December 21, 1889, and married Hugh McPhee on 1917, and came their farm in the rict, Alberta, until when they moved McPhee had been in ill-health for a number of years prior to her death. Surviving Mrs. McPhee are her loving husband Hugh Mc­ Phee of Halkirk; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Smith, of Halkirk; and one granddaughter; also a sister, Mrs. Fred Kading, Dash­ wood, Ontario; and One brother, Russel Wanner, of Grand Bend, Ontario. The funeral was held from Halkirk United Church on Sep­ tember 1 with 'service conducted by Rev. Mr. Whaley, who also sang a requested solo. Many beautiful floral tributes were received showing the es­ teem in which Mrs. McPhee was held, Pallbearers .were William Taylor, Thomas Styles, Victor Ronald, Gordon Fowler, Edward Taylor and Alex McGregor. In­ terment was in the Halkirk Cemetery Boy Finds $200 Near Harpley One morning recently when Alex Love was going to the past­ ure on Ws bicycle for the horses by way of the Credlton sideroad he found a twenty dollar bill in the grass by the edge of the pav­ ement. Some days latei’ a more extensive search was made and a total of two hundred and one dollars was found scattered al­ ong the roadside for about fifty rods, A billfold and other papers was also found including a driv­ er’s permit which supplied a clue as to the owner who gave ,Alex a very suitable reward.
