Six pitchers struggled on the mound as the batters took control of the game. Exeter’s big inning came in the third when they tallied five runs on two hits and four walks. Daniel, of Ingersoll United Church de­ livered the sermon and spoke of the spirit the Canadian troops had in battle. I-Ie served as a padre with the army in Italy and Europe. “These men, in the hour of danger, learned to know God and lost their .fear of death,” Major Daniel said. “Their spirit was wonderful and they should not be forgotten. I think it is right that communities such as Lucan should construct a useful and lasting monument to the memory of these men.” The hall was filled for the de­ votional service lead by Rev. L. C. Dashwood’s star pitcher, Yelle, started off but was hindered with a blistered finger injured the previous eve­ ning during their game with Zurich. He was relieved in the seventh by Carl Wein who al­ lowed only one hit for the bal­ ance of the game. Bob Gatenby hit the only double of the game in the sixth inning with three men on bases. The little granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Skinner, Nancy Mason, of Belgrave, was taken to Wellesley Hospital in Toronto where she had plastic surgery done on two fingers : which wore severely burned with an electric iron.
