Rydall Mr. W. B. Rydall ofj Shallow Lake passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning while visit ing at the home of his son, Jack at Elginfield, When he did not appear for breakfast an investi gation revealed that he had passed away during the night. His wife, the former Mary Kydd, predeceased him by a number of years. Mrs. Robert Kydd, who has been in frail health, has been making her home with Mr. Rydall. L. C. Mrs. Harvey and a grandson of the late Joseph H. Harvey, of Exeter, and Mrs. B. H. Harvey, of Mitchell, a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, has been awarded a research assistantship at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. He has finished his course for his master of science degree in the department of zoology and applied biology at Western. H. O. Southcott Funeral The funeral of the late Her bert O. Southcott was held from his home Friday afternoon with Rev. H. J. Snell officiating. The floral tributes were exceptionally numerous and beautiful, over flowing the room in which the body rested and included pieces from the Municipal Council, the Masonic Order, the I.O.O.F., the Lions Club, the Canada Club and the James St, United Church. The bearers were Messrs. Gor don Southcott, of London, F, Sheere, C. Frayne, A. E, Howald, H. C. Rivers and Wm. Allison. Among those present from a dis tance were ‘Mrs. Edna Pinder of Montreal Lansing, Detroit; and Mrs. to; Mr, Mrs. Rawlings, Mrs. Mr. and Mrs. of London; Mr. of Brantford; of Galt; Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Hed ley, of Ridgetown; Mrs. Mc Millan, of Oil City; Mr. and Mrs. Boley and Mrs, iPeel of Chatham. Joseph May Mr. Joseph May, whose early life dates back to the pioneer days in this community, died suddenly Thursday afternoon of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Southcott. He was in his ninety-first year.. Mr. May was in his accustomed health and had been up town both in the morning and after noon and shortly after returning home slipped away quietly. He was born on the farm now occupied by his son Hedley, lot 8, concession 1, Usborne. The farm "was the first to be settled in Usborne and was purchased from the Canada Company by the late William May and his wife, Elizabeth ‘Balkwill, having come out from Devonshire, Eng land in 1832, the original deed to the land being in possession of the family. Mr. May’s father, the late Thomas May, was three years of age when he crossed the ocean in a sailing vessel that took about five weeks. He pass ed away in October 1914. It was only the year before the May’s took up the home that the portion of the London Road in Huron County was chopped through the dense forest. Mr. May was the last of the family, William F., George and John, Mrs. J. G. Jones and Mrs. Harry T. Rowe having prede ceased him. He was united in marriage with Clara Hicks, who passed away in Novemebr 19 46. Surviving are one daughter (Alma) 'Mrs. J. M. Southcott, one son, Hedley, and seven grandchildren. Deceased was a member of James St. United Church, had been a member of the ficial board and was faithful in his attendance each Sunday. The funeral, Monday after noon, was held from the R. C. Dinney funeral home and was conducted by Rev. H. J. Snell, assisted by Rev. Robert Hicks, of London and a nephew, Rev, Russell May, or Arkona. The pallbearers were four grandsons, Robert and Donald Southcott, Douglas and Murray May and Warren May and Glen Robinson. The flower bearers were four granddaughters, Florence and Mrs. Robert Southcott, Kathleen and Marion May. Among those present for the funeral were: Rev. R. E. and Mrs. May, of Arkona; Rev. Robt. Hicks, of London; Mrs. Peters, Atwood; Mrs. J, Mr. 'and Mrs. Melburn Green wood, of Munro; Mr. and Mrs. J. Paris of Mitchell, Mr. Stanley Peters, of Byron. M rs. William Baker The funeral of the late : J William Baker was held from | the R. C, Dinney funeral home i Monday afternoon conducted by * Rev. H. J. Snell. Mrs. Baker, whose maiden name was Eliza beth Heaman, died at her home Friday, aged 83 years. She had been ill for several weeks and two weeks previous had the mis fortune to fall and fracture her hip. Mr. and Mrs. Baker following their marriage farmed in Stephen Township and forty years ago retired and moved to where Mr. Baker passed October 3, 1948. Deceased member of the James United Church. Surviving are one son, of Crediton; one daughter, Mrs. Clark Fisher, of Usborne Town ship; two sisters, Mrs. Nora Tapp, of Virden, Man.; Mrs. Florence Carefoot, Kelowna, B.C.; and four brothers, Thomas Heaman, Carmen, Man,; James and Jerry, Hargraves, Man.; and Joseph, in Saskatchewan. Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. S. Brokensliire of Brussells and Carr of Detroit.
