Entertainment Leisure& Tommy Hunter Show coming this January Canada’s Country Gentleman is making his return to Blyth in January and he’s bringing a show that has made some changes, but still has the classic feel of the years he spent on television. “We’ve been going out on the road at this time of the season for years,” Hunter says. “This has just always seemed to work for us.” The show is set to go on Jan. 23 at Memorial Hall as part of Hunter’s cross-country tour, which will last for just under one month, starting on Jan. 12 in Prince Edward Island and wrapping up in Saskatchewan on Feb. 3. Fans, of course, will remember Hunter from The Tommy Hunter Show or CBC’s Country Hoedown, both of which were massively popular at the time and Hunter says his show still delivers on people’s expectations of his show years ago. “Our stage show is almost exactly the same as what we did on the television show,” he says. “For anyone who watched and liked the show, our stage show will have the same feel. People will be tapping their feet and singing right along with the songs.” Hunter says that while the show has gone through some subtle changes over the years, the format remains the same, which is important for his fans he says. “We’ve changed the show a little, as we do every year, but we can’t change the format,” he says. He says the tour just after Christmas and into the new year isn’t so much of a tradition as it is a time of year that seems to work for everyone involved. While it’s nice to see the musicians in his band again every year, he says, it just seems to work for the show, the tour and all of the musicians. One of Hunter’s favourite parts of his annual tour is that it gives him a chance to get out and meet the fans who have been following his career for decades, something that helps him feel connected to his audience. “It’s wonderful getting out on the road. It gives me a great thrill to meet all of the people who watched me on television for all of those years,” he said. “It’s a good show and we have a lot of fun doing it.” Tickets to The Tommy Hunter Show are $40 in advance or $45 at the door and are available by calling 519-523-9300 or by visiting the Blyth Festival website at www.blythfestival.com LET’S ALL BOWL...
