and worship and to adore by which
the fires of faith are rekindled and
life is made brand new. Christmas is
for the whole world but today as in
ages past there is a stark contrast
between what the world is and what
it might be if the love and light of the
Christmas message were taken and
lived continuously.
It is sad that the beautiful and
lovely, which is seen at this season of
the year, are only fleeting indications
of a quality of life that is not
maintained throughout the whole of
the year. Christmas is like a festival
and a feast at which a traveller stops
for a time knowing he will not abide
there but must move on into the cold,
calculating cruel world.
And such is the end result when
one is to rely on passing fancies that
come into our life! The message of
the angels was “news of great joy”
and why, because the Saviour has
been born. The message did not
hinge on circumstance, it was not
empowered by emotion, it was
affected by acceptance or rejection
and was not and is not in need of
human adornment.
No, the message of the cradle is in
fact the message of the cross, a
message of great joy for all who
would have ears to hear. The first
time Jesus came, there was no room
for Him.
The religious of the day crucified
Him and cast Him away. The next
time He comes, the whole world will
not be able to contain His glory! The
first time He came, only a few
attended His arrival, some shepherds
who were watching their flocks by
night. The next time He comes,
every eye shall see Him and knees
will bow.
The first time He came as a baby.
Soon He will come as Sovereign and
Lord.
Mary didn’t grasp the magnitude
and immensity of the birth of the
Son of God, how could she? The
shepherds did not fully grasp the
enormity of the angel’s message,
how could they?
But what they saw, what they
learned, what they heard they
listened to and coming to that
manger they were amazed and
spread the news.
The wise men, in search of the
King, found Him and when they saw
Him, they bowed down and
worshiped Him.
The invitation remains the same,
come to the Christ, accept the gift
and worship Him. For He is the good
news of great joy, He is the Savior.
In the hustle and bustle of this
season, as we approach what is
becoming for many in our world
today a mere “holiday”, will you like
Mary, listen to the words of this
wonderful story and treasure them in
your heart and take the time to
ponder. To ponder the miracle of
Divine visitation. To ponder the
wonder of Amazing Grace.
And then, like the shepherds, go
out into the world, glorifying and
praising God for all the things we
have seen and heard. News of great
joy! Christ the Saviour is born! A
blessed Christmas to all!
