HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-12-24, Page 42By Rachael Snell, MarionStudhalter and Tine VerscheaveThis week at Blyth Public Schoolstudents have had carol sings every
morning. They have really enjoyed
singing. It sure gets everyone
smiling. The SKs were visited by SpecialConst. Tyler. He shared with thestudents details about his job.
The children learned about the
importance of reading, writing and
speaking. The JKs enjoyed Christmasstories and activities. The Grade 3s are teaching Grade
2s about the traditions around the
world like Hanukkah. They are also
making menorahs and and tasting
latkes and playing Dreidels. They
are also comparing other traditions
to Christmas.
In math they are practising
number facts and interpreting
graphs such as bar graphs and
pictographs.
The Grade 3/4s are writing their
own Christmas stories. They have
made a Santa in art and will be
finishing up their adding and
subtracting unit. The Grade 3s are
finishing their urban and rural unit
and the Grade 4s are finishing up a
unit on Canada.
This will leave a clean slate for
Mrs. Cook who will be back from
maternity leave in January.
The Grade 4/5s are building
bridges out of popsicle sticks and
testing how much the bridges can
stand in weight wind and
earthquakes.
A special welcome back to
Mrs. Decker who is coming
back from her maternity leave in
January.
The Grade 7/8s are making maps
of either their own town like Blyth
or the area around their homes or
their own made up place. They are
also working on writing stories on
the mysteries of Harris Burdock.
What’s on top of your Christmas
wish list? Kennedy in Grade 1 says,
an i-pod and a cloth girl. Joseph in
Grade 4 says Monopoly.
Bailey in Grade 3 says,
Techdecks.
Melissa in Grade 8 said, I would
like a digital camera and a trip to
Cuba.
Justin from Grade 6 said, I would
like some tools for Christmas, like a
saw or a drill.
Joel in Grade 7 says, I would likea 2010 Polaris 800 and a BrowningA-bolt.Alex from Grade 8 said, I would
just like either an army or hockey
video game and a long sleeve shirt.
Kenzie from Grade 7 said, I want
an i-pod video, jeans and money!
Hannah in Grade 4 says, I would
like SpongeBob and Patrick toys
and a furry-for-real panda.
Reed in Grade 1 says, I would like
some Lego and transformer toys.

sales, but we still have lots to sell.

After a week delay, the Christmas
concert was a hit.
The Blyth PS band performed
really well with a couple of
squeaks, but overall it went really
well. Thanks to all who attended.
The 50/50 draw went to Brenda
Sjaarda. The basket winners were as
follows: the spa basket, Colin
Howson; the chocolate basket,
Anita Van Hittersum and the
picture, Cathy Abell-Rinn.

Singing away
The Blyth Public School production of Slapshot Santa,
performed for its Christmas concert at Memorial Hall last
week, featured the majority of the school’s students, even
some of the youngest. Cassidy Shannon, left, Jacob
Josling, centre, and Shyanne Hubbard, were kind enough
to donate their singing voices to the play. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
