HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-12-24, Page 36Merry Christmas! The two most
popular words heard in the past
week. People have been busy putting
up Christmas trees, going to
Christmas concerts, serving
Christmas meals at schools, baking
and finishing up that Christmas
shopping.
There is always that one last gift to
pick up. Many people complain how
busy they are trying to get
everything done, but always in the
end, they wish you a Merry
Christmas.
I will take this opportunity to add
my Christmas wishes to all and a
Happy New Year to everyone. My
thanks to all for their news tidbits
throughout the year and to those who
encourage and support my efforts as
I report the happenings of our
Walton and Brussels-area folks. May
you enjoy this holiday season with
your family and friends and enjoy a
happy, healthy 2010.
Many families celebrate
Christmas a little early. The family
of George and Marie Blake gathered
at the St. Ambrose hall two
weekends ago with nearly 70
members of their family. They
enjoyed a delicious meal together
and an afternoon of visiting, laughter
and fun.
The family of Harold and Pearl
McCallum joined together to
celebrate Christmas this past
weekend at the Kinburn Hall.
Everyone pitches in and brings the
appropriate dish and it’s a feast
enjoyed by all. Lots of fun and
laughter for those who gathered.
The Heibein family gathered at the
Walton Hall for their family
Christmas on Saturday. They
enjoyed a meal and a fun-filled day
together.
The Wilbee family gathered on
Sunday to celebrate. The festivities
were held at the home of Murray and
Carol Henderson. The gathering
included Scott and Erin Henderson,
Steven Henderson and friend Jaclyn
Hulley, Ian, Brian, Keith, Gloria,
Kevin and Mark Wilbee. They had a
delicious dinner together and
evening of visiting.
McGavin’s of Walton held its staff
Christmas on the weekend. They
went by bus to the London raceway.
They had a meal at the top of the Fair
Lounge and many enjoyed the
evening of horse racing.
Steve Coulter, an employee of
McGavin’s, also has a special
interest in horse racing, as he has a
horse, that happened to be racing
that evening. The horse must have
known that the McGavin crew was
there, so raced extra well and
finished third. It was a fun evening,
with some winners and losers, but all
had fun.
Catching up with those not feeling
well, we are pleased to report that
Leslie Knight is home and feeling
pretty well. Jeff McGavin is out and
about again after knee surgery and
doing very well. Edna Pearson
(Ralph) has been transferred to
Parkwood Hospital in London and
we wish her all the best in her
recovery.
Our condolences are expressed to
Chris and Judy Lee on the passing of
their niece, Sharon McNaughton.
Sharon was the daughter of Merle
and Gloria Glanville of Seaforth.
Our sympathies are extended to
John Davies and children Chris and
Shannon, on the passing of Lynne
Davies (McDonald). Lynne was theonly child of the late Alvin and VeraMcDonald and was born and raisedin the Walton area. Many willremember Lynne as a truly caringand dedicated nurse at SeaforthHospital. The funeral service was heldWednesday, Dec. 23 from NorthsideUnited Church, Seaforth. Ourcondolences are expressed to the
extended McDonald and Huether
families.
Returning from a great week away
are two area couples. Joe and
Rhonda Ryan and Dan and Lynn
McNichol were away that stormy
week basking in hot sunshine, while
we had three days of blustery winterweather. They were at Samana,Dominican Republic and stayed atthe Bahia Principe Cayacoa Resort. They report it was a wonderful weekwith the weather hot and the drinkscold.Joe and Lynn even went scubadiving while Dan and Rhonda helddown the beach.Grandpa Jack and Grandma
Maryanna Ryan report that they had
their hands full with the two little
Ryan boys, but they always had
Johnny out to the bus on time.
The Olympic Torch has touched
the life of a young man with Walton
connections. The grandson of
Howard and Audrey Hackwell,Sebastian Andrades, had theopportunity to carry the torch at hisschool. The Olympic Torch Relay came through the town of Whitby on Dec.17. One of the carriers was ateaching assistant at Sebastian’sschool.
Painting the way
The craziness of Christmas shopping was the idea behind
one of the performances at the Grey Central Public School
concerts last week. Taking on the task of painting the
parking spaces closer together were, from left: Logan
Clark, Derek Koetsier, Carl Dow and Ben Hruska. (Bonnie
