We asked the Grade 1 students at
Blyth Public School...
Pretend that you’re an elf. How
would you make the toy you want for
Christmas in Santa’s Workshop?
“I want a Hannah Montana Barbie
Doll.
You would probably need brown
paint, legs and arms, rubber and
string. Then you would get the string
and put it through the legs and then
put it through the arms and then put
the head on.
Then you’d have to get a
paintbrush and paint the Barbie
brown.”
- Brinna
“I want a monster truck.
You’d need black rubber, plastic
and some paint. Probably orange,
green, red and blue and the right
tools.
First you’d put the wheels on, then
put the plastic on top and use the
tools to shape it. Then you’d paint it,
the top orange, the wheels green, the
top red and then when the wheels are
dry, paint them blue.” - Rorie
“I want some Lego.
To make the Lego, you would put
it in a box and then put all the stubs
on the top. That’s how you make the
Lego.
If you’re making a truck, you
would have to have a person with it
to drive the truck. You would need
the legs and a head and a helmet for
the person. Then you could put it in
a big box.” - Reid
“I would want some Star Wars
Lego.
You would have to have some
paint and then let it dry to make the
blocks. Then for the Star Wars
people you’ve got to be good. Santa
will make them, he’ll have it and
he’ll make the face and the hands
and the body and the legs and he’ll
make it look like the Star Wars
people.” - Rylee
“I want a Littlest Pet Shop toy.
I would get some plasticine and
some special things and then put
some rust on it.
We would make the shape of a
bunny and then try and make it look
like it has rust under it so it’s hard.
Then you would wrap it up into a
present.” - Bailey
“I want a Nintendo DS for
Christmas.
Well you would need some plastic
and some paint and something for
the screen because it’s clear, like a
window.
You would start with the plastic so
it’s wrapped up and then take the
plastic off when you build it. Then
you would have to put the buttons on
the front. If there weren’t any
buttons, you wouldn’t be able to play
it.” - Jason
“I want a truck for Christmas.
If you were going to make the
truck, you would need screws and
glue and wood and the wheels. Oh
and some red paint.
You would put the top together
first, glue the top down and then put
the screws into the bottom with the
screwdriver. Then you’d have to
paint it when you’re all done.” -
Braedan
“I want a swimming puppy.
Maybe you would need some
hammers and some nails and maybe
some goggles.
You could start with some plastic
and then it would have to be painted
brown and blue and white. You
would start with the body, then
maybe the legs and then the tail at
the end.” - Kiera
“I want an iPod for Christmas.
You would have to paint it blueand then put on the buttons and thescreen and put the battery in.” -Kennedy“I want a toy boat.First you would get a base and
then you would put a top onto the
base of it and get a big block of
wood and then nail it down into the
base.
I would paint it black and white
and silver and then put a sail on the
boat with a picture of a skull on it.” -
Quaid
“I would want a toy tractor.
I would paint it green and then
build it with some nails and some
wood. You would put the wheels on
first, then put the nails in and then
put the paint on.” - Ty
“I want another Barbie doll forChristmas. To make the Barbie you wouldneed rubber and plastic and paint, probably pink, blue, white andblack.
You would shape the legs and
arms and then shape the body and
then put them all together. Then you
would put on the head.”
- Ella
“I want a Nintendo DS.
You would have to shape the metal
first and then connect all the wires,
then make the glass for the screen.
You would have to print the words
onto it and make the plastic and set it
down on the counter so you could
