are here! The 12 days of Christmas
have arrived, or at least by Friday,
they’re here. So often we think that
only Dec. 25 counts as the one to
celebrate, but in reality that day and
the 11 after are all reasons to gather.
So here’s to some great gathering.
Christmas Eve is a special time, as
the anticipation of love sharedcomes to a head. Church services arean important part of the Christmasjoy for many. So check with yourlocal church for the time to celebratethe story of the birth of Jesus. For the majority who do notregularly attend church, this time ofyear often sees them joining withcommunity to be with family and
friends for Christmas Eve services.
Perhaps it’s the feeling of goodwill,
or maybe it invokes good memories
of another time, or perhaps it’s
putting the Bethlehem story into the
present and seeing how faith and
family, friends and shared love make
this a never-ending story.
It could be that folks don’t know
why they want to go to church on
that night but whatever the reason,
the feeling of that night have beenrepeated for hundreds and hundredsof years, starting with the baby inBethlehem and still being heard andfelt in homes today.See you in church to share thehope, peace, joy and love that thisseason brings each year.Call 1 888 2 DONATE, that’s 1-888-236-6283 between now and
Dec. 29 to book your appointment
with Canadian Blood Services. It’s
one of the best gifts you can give. An
hour of your time will save or
improve the life of at least three
people.
The community centre is the place
to go and if you have an
appointment you’ll be in and out in
about 60 minutes, enjoying the
feeling of satisfaction of a job well
done.As I’m writing this, the spirit ofChristmas is running full out in ourhouse. Our tree needed decoratedand of course there were wee onesfrom Listowel who were keen tohelp. It’s been quite a few years sinceI’ve seen so much tinsel in so manyplaces and so many beads on a tree
and of course it’s all lovely. Glue
and old Christmas cards is keeping
them in one spot for a moment, but
cookie baking is next on the list and
so I must hurry.
May you share the joy of the
season with those around you. May
hope be in your in the days ahead.
May peace and tranquility be shown
in your life and may love surround
you as another year approaches.
Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year to everyone.
The final weeks of 2009 are flying
by and everyone at the Brussels
Legion hopes people have an
enjoyable Christmas season with
family and friends.
The Brussels Cadet Corps 2967
held its annual family Christmas
dinner and presentations evening.
The dinner was prepared by
members of the parent committee
and dessert provided by parents and
staff members.
The weather turned quite nasty
after 5 p.m., so many were unable to
attend, but about eight Cadets and
family members arrived to enjoy
turkey, ham and all the trimmings.
Gifts were presented to staff and
volunteers of the Corps.
It was a nice evening, but wrapped
up early because of the weather.
Cadets will resume after the
Christmas break.
The general meeting for the
Branch was cancelled on Tuesday
evening due to the weather. The
executive met earlier and business
for the Branch was discussed.
The Branch is hosting Zone darts
in January and bartenders, food, new
dart boards need to be arranged.
Membership Chairman Greg
Wilson reports that there are still a
few members who have not paid
their dues and hopes that in the
remaining days of December, they
will drop into the Branch to do
so.
The Thursday night darts had 18
people come out to enjoy a fun night
of competition and fun. The first-
place team was Harry Smith,
Marlene Little and Lawrence
Machan. The second were Norm
Dobson and Deb Cann.
The high shots of the night were
made by John Harrison with 133,
Marlene Rutledge with 131 an Kaye
Smith with 130.
Christmas goodies and snacks
were enjoyed. Christmas draw
winners were Sharon Robbins, Greta
Zehr, Kaye Smith, Sandra Josling,
Rodger McHardy and Catrina
Josling.
Darts will return after the new
year.
The Friday night supper was
potluck and there was a wonderful
array of dishes. Following the meal
the Just Fun band delighted the
many attending to a variety of old-
time music as well as Christmas
music.
The optional Christmas draw had
21 people receiving a gift. Gifts
ranged from practical work gloves to
unusual Christmas decorations, to
shake lights to body lotion and bath
towels.
Some items were stolen two and
three times during the game and a lot
of laughs were enjoyed.
Saturday was the annual
Christmas wings, fries and meat
draws. There were many happy
winners at the end of the night.
The kitchen staff was Jim Brown,
Eric and Deb Ross. The draws were
looked after by John Lowe.
