The community extends sincere
sympathy to the families of Gordon
Pengelly who passed away.

conditions.
Forty-one people gathered on
Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Belgrave
Community Centre to help celebrate
Mary Taylor’s 80th birthday. Those
attending were from Ripley,
Toronto, New Hamburg,
Shakespeare, Bluevale, Blyth,
Mitchell, Lucknow, London and
Belgrave.
The community also extends best
wishes to Mary on her 80th
birthday.
The Belgrave Women’s Institute
meeting was held at Knox United
Church, beginning with a turkey
dinner catered by the United Church
Women.
The president, Doreen Marks,
welcomed 17 members and 26
guests, then read a Christmas story.
Rev. John Roberts sang, O Holy
Night and Kay Roberts played for
carol singing.
Doreen introduced Rev. Cathrine
Campbell who spoke about the
origins of some of the Christmas
carols and hymns. She was
presented with a floral arrangement
in appreciation.
Everyone took part in a game with
several lucky winners given prizes.
President Doreen thanked those
who donated items for the Food
Bank and wished everyone a Merry
Christmas and a Happy and Healthy

Michelle Burrs and girls greeted
worshippers at Knox United Church
on Dec. 13.
Rev. Tom Murray welcomed the
congregation. This was followed by
the singing of, O Lord, How Shall I
Meet You, accompanied by
Elizabeth Stennett.
Trudy Taylor and Ron Taylor
were the Advent readers. Trudy lit
the Advent candle, which was
followed by the singing of, A
Candle is Burning.
After the Advent prayer Rev.
Murray shared a story entitled, A
Silent Lamb, stating that even one
lamb can make a difference.
Jesus Christ died for each and
everyone, he said, and rose from the
dead. Remember that lamb this
Christmas to have peace with God
and peace with others.
The Song of Hope was, Once in
Royal David’s City.
The Sunday school and friends
presented, The Christmas Story
(live from Bethlehem) on the birth
of Christ. The congregation joined
in singing, O Little Town of
Bethlehem, Away in a Manger, We
Three Kings, Angels We Have
Heard on High, Silent Night, Go
Tell it on the Mountain and Joy to
the World.
Allen Walker and Blair Bieman
took up the offering and Kathleen
Stennett and Brianna Yuill collected
the white gifts which were
dedicated.
After the children took part in
singing, We Wish You a Merry
Christmas.
Rev. Murray extended his thanks
for all those taking part in the
service. Refreshments and a social
time followed in the sanctuary.
For Sunday, Dec. 20 the theme is,
Opening Your Heart’s Door to
Divine Encounters.
Children’s Christmas day camp
will be held on Monday, Dec. 21
from 9 a.m. until noon at the
church. This is for ages three to
eight. Come and enjoy games,
music, crafts and snacks with a free
childcare program.

The Christmas Eve Service will
be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24.
President Muriel Coultes
welcomed 29 and several guests to
the December meeting of the
Community Club.
Grace was sung and everyone sat
down to a turkey dinner catered by
Marilyn Frieburger and family.
Several lucky people were given
the floral table decorations. Mrs.
Coultes read a story, The
Celebrations of Christmas.
Happy birthday was sung to Ross
Anderson, Irene Lamont and Mary
Taylor. Happy anniversary was sung
to Arnold and Ora Bruce.
The name of George Inglis will be
entered in the Book of
Remembrance. There will be a
dessert shoot party on Feb. 12 and a
donation of $500 will be given to the
arena board.
Everyone signed a get-well card
for Bill Coultes who was a patient in
Wingham Hospital.
Barbara Anderson welcomed
Mary McIntosh who provided piano
music and played for carol singing.
The next meeting will be a potluck
lunch on Feb. 5.
