The Thursday night darts at the
Brussels Legion had only nine
players out in the nasty weather to
have a little fun. The first-place team
was Greta Zehr and Gord Jacklin. In
second were Roger McHardy and
Deb Cann. The high shot of the night
was by Sandra Josling shooting 140
and Deb Cann shooting 133.
This week will be the Christmas
snacks and fun night.
The Friday night supper was
cancelled due to the poor weather.
This week is the Christmas potluck
and we invite everyone to join us
with their favourite dish and have
some fun. Just For Fun will also be
on hand to provide some
entertainment. The $10 mystery gift
exchange will take place for those
who wish to participate.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
only had seven tables of players
vying to be winners. The first-place
team was Susan Harman and Marie
Park with 75 points. Second place
went to Deanna and George Bacon
with 69 points and in third were
Helen Dobson and Mabel Willis
with 67 points.
The low prize of the day went to
Verna Gibbings and Lorna Ellis who
earned only 43 points. The lone-
hand prizes went to Lois Chamney
and Glen Sellers.
This was the last euchre for the
2009 year. Euchre will return after
the Christmas break on Jan. 9.
The family of Ruth Shiell gathered
to celebrate their family Christmas at
the Legion on Sunday. They enjoyed
a traditional Christmas dinner at
lunch time and a family time
followed the meal.
The final dance of the year on
Sunday night started off very badly.
We arrived to find no band at the
back door waiting to get in. We
thought bad weather was making
them a little late. By 6:15 p.m. we
decided we should call the band and
check out the situation. It was a
shock when the leader of the band
answered the phone. He had
forgotten that they were playing. It
would be an hour before they could
be there.
The PA system with some country
music and some Christmas songs
was turned on. People played cards
to pass the time and had extra time to
visit. The lunch was made and we
thought we would have to feed the
folks early.
Members of the band arrived and
by 8:15 p.m. nearly 70 folks were
dancing and having a good time. Just
one short break for the lunch and
back to dancing for everyone.
Extra door prizes appeared and
most everyone stayed right to the
end of the evening.
The last dance of 2009 will be
remembered for a while.
The Sunday night dances will
resume on Jan. 10.
This is the first time a band has
forgotten to show in over 12 years of
dances.
Saturday is the Branch wings, fries
and meat draw celebration for
Christmas. Come one, come all and
have something to eat and maybe
win a prize on the draws. The fun
begins at 4:30 p.m.
Two more weeks until the end of
the year and memberships are due.
Please drop into the Branch or send
them in the mail, Box 128 for
Comrade Greg to process.
There were four Comrades off to
Goderich and the Zone single dart
competition on Saturday afternoon.
John Harrison, Ken Bird, Ron
Schmidt and Eric Ross all had a
good day. Ron and Eric will advance
to District play in the new year.
We still have calendars if you’re
looking for that extra little gift for
someone.
The Branch expresses its
sympathy to the family of former
Branch member Bill Kammerman,
who passed away last week.

Seasonal music
It was an evening for residents to enjoy the traditional music of the season on Sunday night
at the annual Brussels and community choral concert held at St. Ambrose church. People and
choirs from churches in Brussels and Walton participated. Here the audience enjoys the
offering from the host choir. (Vicky Bremner photo)
News is at a premium this week as
the weather kept most people close
to home. Roads were closed in the
area some days, schools were closed
for two or three days depending on
the area.
I drive to Seaforth schools and on
the second day of the storm, we had
to drive and pick up children for just
the one school. It was a pretty quiet
bus when you only have six children
on.
The countdown is on with only a
couple of days of school left before
the Christmas break.

training, keeping up with the new
technology of GPS systems. Julie
reports he had a good time and
learned lots.
The Glanville family gathered for
a celebration on Saturday at the
home of Richard and Marjorie
Horst. The over 50 people present
celebrated the 50th birthday of
Marleen Hill. The group enjoyed a
potluck meal and a great time
visiting.
A special guest for the evening
was an old friend, the former Linda
Godkin. Her parents were Mervyn
and June Godkin and were
neighbours of the Glanvilles manyyears ago.Members of the Brussels Women’sInstitute held their Decembermeeting and Christmas dinner at theWalton Inn on Wednesday. There were about 10 ladies presentto enjoy the meal and meeting thatfollowed.A full house was on hand to listen

Ambrose Catholic Church on
Sunday evening. The crowd was

Christmas Eve service 7 p.m.
It was the third Sunday of Advent
and there was a good turnout to
Duff’s United Church. Worshippers
were greeted by Lorne and Bonnie
Glanville on Rejoicing Sunday.
The third candle of Advent, is the
candle of Joy. Emma and Sara
Strome gave the reading and lit the
candles.
Rev. Peter’s reflection was
entitled, An Invitation to be Joyful.
Profound challenges have always
been experienced since the
beginning of time, lack of food,
water, the basic necessities of life
and now global warming.
Prophets point out that gladness
will come and people are urged to
trust in God with all their worries
and concerns, with the hope that
they will experience God’s joy and
peace.
Sunday, there is a presentation of
a play by the youth of the church.
The Christmas Eve service will be
at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend to
celebrate and give thanks for the
birth of baby Jesus.
