HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2009-12-10, Page 27Bruce and Huron County will be
considering ideas to improve the
safety at a joint intersection.
A letter was read at Huron County
council’s Nov. 25 meeting from the
Bruce warden expressing his
concern over the number of colisions
at McIntosh corner, on County Road
28. He noted that there had been one
fatal crash and many “near misses”,
adding “something needs to be
done.”
Huron East councillor Joe Seili
said he travelled the road quite
frequently and agreed that safety is a
concern. He said that he usually
stops at the corner, without the stop
sign because vehicles coming the
other way are not. “Three times I
would have worn a vehicle on the
side of my truck if I hadn’t stopped.”
Councillor Bill Dowson of
Bluewater said that heading east on
the road in the morning can be
challenging due to the way the sun
hits the windshield. “Perhaps a stop
ahead sign back a bit would be a
help. You can’t see. It’s a corner with
a problem.”
Director of pubic works Dave
Laurie said that visibility is poor at
the corner because there is a church
right at the road.
However, he didn’t feel a four-way
stop was necessary.
“The one death was the result of a
person who did stop at the corner,
then proceeded.”
Instead he said, a hidden
intersection sign might improve the
situation. “I think it would help a
great deal.
Laurie was instructed to prepare a
report that would include the
collision history.

The week at the Brussels Legion
had the usual meetings and events to
keep everyone busy. Cadets met on
Tuesday evening and are busy
planning their Christmas meal and
get together.
The last early bird membership
winner is Scott McDonald for
November. Membership dues are
now $50 and hopefully can be paid
before the end of December.
Chairman Greg Wilson reports it
makes his job just that little bit
easier.
The Thursday night darts had 17
people taking aim at the boards. The
first-place team was Deb Cann and
Eric Ross. In second were Paul
Gross and Sandra Josling. High
shots were Eric shooting 140 and
Sandra shooting 125. The high start
of the evening was by Norm Dobson
with 101.
The Christmas snack and fun night
will be next week, Dec. 17.
The general meeting for
December will be Tuesday, Dec. 15
at 8 p.m.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was enjoyed
by a crowd of 40 or so. This week
will be sweet and sour meatballs and
rice.
The Christmas potluck will be
Dec. 18 and the Just for Fun band
will be playing. The mystery gift
exchange will be later that evening
for those wishing to join in, so just
bring a $10 wrapped gift and see
what you might go home with.
The men’s Huron County dart
league was at the Branch on
Saturday. There were over 50 men
out to enjoy the day.
Get-well wishes go out to
Comrade Clarence Bishop who’s at
home recovering from surgery.
We still have lots of Brussels and
area community event calendars.
They would make an excellent little
gift for a family member not living
in Brussels anymore. Keep them up
with what’s happening and to help
make plans for coming home for a
visit.
Organizations planning events can
check and see what else is
happening in the area and not have
two events on the same day.
Calendars are available at the
Branch, Murray Lowe’s barbershop,
Cinnamon Jim’s, Oldfield’s, Radar
Auto Parts and George’s to Jo-
Ann’s.
Please help support the Brussels
Legion’s accessibility project.
