ROY CLIFTON WILBEE
March 4, 1926 - Nov. 6, 2009
Roy Clifton Wilbee was born on
March 4, 1926 and grew up on the
family farm near the town of Ethel,
Huron County in Southern Ontario.
He attended elementary school in a
one-room schoolhouse, high school
to Grade 12 in Brussels and Grade
13 in Schumacher, Ontario.
In 1944 Roy worked in the gold
mines near Timmins. At the age of
19 in 1945, he joined the Canadian
Army. Upon his return, in 1946, he
went back to work in the mines
while starting a few courses toward
his university degree.
An unfortunate mining injury put
Roy in hospital for several weeks.
Following his recovery he returned
home to help on the family farm,
then worked for a brief period of
time at a factory in Kitchener.
In the fall of 1947 Roy entered
The College of Veterinary Medicine
in association with The University of
Toronto, in Guelph. On Tuesday,May 22, 1951 he graduated as aDoctor of Veterinary Medicine.Dr. Roy Wilbee practised for two
years in Fairlight, Saskatchewan
before moving to Boissevain,
Manitoba in the autumn of 1953
when he had the opportunity to
purchase his own veterinary practice
from Dr. Norm Phillips.
From this time until his retirement
in 1996 Dr. Roy devoted himself to
veterinary service for the
southwestern Manitoba farming
communities.
On Jan. 11, 1977 he was honoured
with a Life Membership Award by
the Manitoba Veterinary Medical
Association.
Roy Wilbee married Euniece
Opperman on June 11, 1955 and the
following summer their first son,
Richard, was born, followed two
years later by their twin sons Allan
and Steven, then their daughters
Theresa and Kai over the next few
years.
He was devoted to his family and
leaves to mourn his passing his wife
Euniece, son Richard and friend
Cathy of Brandon, son Allan of
Stratford, Ontario, daughter Theresa
and husband Craig Keys of Toronto,
Ontario and daughter Kai of
Winnipeg; grandchildren Brandon,
Adam and Jennifer Wilbee of
Manitoba, Kirstie Keys of Ontario;
bothers Ken and Ian of Ontario, and
many nieces and nephews.
Roy was predeceased by his father
Russell and mother Edna, his son
Steven, and his sisters-in-law Elva
and Grace.The funeral service was heldTuesday, Nov. 10 at WhitewaterMennonite Church, Boissevain,
Manitoba at 2 p.m.
Rev. John Oldenkamp officiated.
Remembrances were given by Dr.
Roy’s children. Special music was
provided by a men’s group.
Pallbearers were Don Opperman,
Ron Opperman, Larry Opperman,
Gordon Dougall, Ken Opperman
and Darvin Robertson.
We remember Roy Wilbee as a
man of few words, great deeds, and
absolute commitment to his family,
his work and his community.

Care Unit or St. Paul’s United
Church, Boissevain, Manitoba.
BERNICE HIGGINS
Bernice Higgins of Wingham
passed away at Wingham and
District Hospital on Friday, Dec. 4,
2009. She was 86.
The former Bernice Norman, was
the beloved wife of the late Jack
Higgins, who predeceased her in
1997. She was the dear mother of
Joan James and Claire Daw of RR1,
Bluevale and Ruth Higgins and
Boris Garcia of Mississauga. She
was the loving grandmother ofDavid James and his friends SherryGosse and Caitlin and Teegan Daw.Bernice was the cherished sister of
Jean Press of Belmore. She was the
sister-in-law of Chester and Wilda
Higgins of Brussels and Bob
Higgins of RR5, Brussels.
She was predeceased by her
parents James and Julia (Glousher)
Norman, her brother John Norman,
son-in-law Murray James, brothers-
in-law George Higgins and K.C.
Press, and sister-in-law Elda
Norman.
Visitation was at the McBurney
Funeral Home, Wingham on
Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
The funeral service was held at the
funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 1
p.m. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated.
Interment was in Brandon
Cemetery, Belgrave.
Memorial donations to CNIB or
the Canadian Diabetes Association
would be appreciated as expressions
of sympathy.

LAWSON WARD
Mr. Lawson Graham Ward of
Listowel and formerly of Grey Twp.
passed away peacefully at Listowel
Memorial Hospital on Saturday,
Dec. 5, 2009. He was in his 89th
year.
Lawson was the beloved husband
of Muriel (Heibein) Ward for 66
years. He was the loving father of
Larry Ward of RR1, Ethel, Gerald
and Ann Ward of St. Marys, Kathy
and Rick Nieman of Kitchener andConnie and Marvin Gibbings ofListowel. He was the proud grandfather of
Leslie, Kim, Tony and Trish, Sheri,
Jeff and Lisa, Julie and Jay, Jennifer
and Gary, Matthew, Stacey and
Andrew, and Nicole and Chad. He
was the proud great-grandfather of
Jamie, Page, Luke, Kendal, Ashton,
Brooklyn, Lucas, Mackenzie,
Shelby, Carter, Maddie, Jocelynn,
Leah and Cameron.
Lawson was the dear brother of
Lycille Wood of Wingham, and
Hilton and Jane Ward of Listowel
and brother-in-law of Rene Ward of
Waterloo, Pearl Heibein of Listowel,
Nellie Hamel of Ilderton, Clayton
Heibein of Thamesford, and Jean
and Bob Coulter of Listowel.
He was predeceased by his parents
Percy and Ruby (Hird) Ward, his
sons Brian and Keith, his grandsons
Joseph and Tim, his daughters-in-
law Deanna and Barbara, his
brothers Ray, Leonard and Murray
and his sisters Phyllis McTaggart
and Faye McMillan.
Visitation was held at the Eaton
Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday
from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. where the
funeral service was held on Tuesday,
Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Mount
Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel.
Memorial donations to the
Listowel Memorial Hospital
Foundation or the Alzheimer Society
would be appreciated.
