This weekend in Lower Lakes
Female Hockey League action, the
Saugeen Maitland Lightning AA
Midgets bested the Kitchener
Rangers 1-0 in both games of a
home-and-home series.
Sunday saw Sarah McGall, Owen
Sound continue the trend of great
goaltending, shutting out the
Rangers in Kitchener as Dollee
Meigs, Owen Sound, found the net
for the second time that weekend.
Emily Kelly, Port Elgin, played a
solid game in net on Saturday in
Howick, blanking the opposition,
with Meigs’ lighting the lamp for
the game’s lone tally.
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
is in action next on Sunday, Dec. 13
at 3 p.m. at the Howick arena for a
home game against the Bluewater
Hawks and the following Monday,
Dec. 14 in Waterloo at the Combia
Icefield Arena at 8 p.m. to take on
the Ravens.
The Blyth-Brussels PeeWee girls
played twice over the weekend and
earned shutout victories in both
contests.
The first game was in Port Elgin
on Saturday, Dec. 5 against the
Saugeen Shores Storm. After a
scoreless first period the team got
going with goals from Teresa
Atkinson, Taylor Higgins, Ashley
Higgins and Mackenzie Nesbitt. The
final score was 4-0.
The second game was in Brussels
on Sunday afternoon against the
BCH Ice Dogs. The girls showed
some excellent passing skills in the
game and won by a score of 6-0.
Ashley Higgins had the hattrick with
singles going to Taylor Higgins,
Nesbitt and Emily Mitchell.
The goal scorers all earned assists
over the weekend as did Kathryn
Chalmers, Ashley Stevenson and
Autumn Wightman.
Lindsay Shiell earned the shutouts
playing both games due to the injury
to Carlie Ducharme.
After 12 games this year the team
has a record of nine wins, one loss
and three ties.
The Brussels PeeWee Reps hosted
Elma Logan in hockey action last
Wednesday night. Brussels came out
fast and strong, and kept the scores
high to win the game 11-1.
Scoring for Brussels were Mitch
Kellington, Colton Hastings, Luke
McCutcheon, Scott Dolmage, Wyatt
Ducharme with a pair and Hayden
Ten Pas with five goals. Assisting
were TenPas, McCutcheon,
Kellington, Dolmage, Hastings, Nic
Zwep, Reece McArter and Sean
Mitchell.
Goalie Matt McNichol continues
to be solid in net. The next game is
against Howick in Brussels.

The Blyth/Brussels PeeWee girls had a game on Sunday
against BCH and overpowered the visitors, scoring six
goals, while shutting down the other side. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Brussels Pre-Tykes travelled toSeaforth and had a tough battle but
worked hard.
Carsen Heise scored a few goals
with Brett McCutcheon, Tyson
Fischer and Lucas Jacklin assisting.
Seaforth’s goalie was very good but
Logan Long was able to get his first
goal of the season with Justin Evans
assisting.
Seaforth came back and scored a
few to keep things tight.
Bennett Smith scored a nice once,
with Taylor Long helping him out.
Matthew McKee also put a point on
the board with help from Luke Fritz.Seaforth came out on top at the
end however.
Brussels then travelled to Blyth
and it was a very even game. Heise
scored two with Griffin Marshall and
Joel Nesbitt. Raelyn Fritz got her
first goal of her hockey career.
It was a close game and the team
had a lot of fun. Other teammates
helping out in the games were
Colby Nicholson, Ashton
Baxter, Jackson McDonald-Inglis,
Christopher Pennington, Andon
Piper.

The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club had another busy week. The
club held the funeral reception for
two former members,Alan Mill and
Ross Hamilton, who will truly be
missed by the club and the
community.
On the brighter side, Friday, Dec.
4 the club hosted the Morris-
Turnberry Christmas party. The
group enjoyed some good music,
and a turkey and roast beef supper
with all the fixings.
Saturday, the Bakker family
enjoyed a Christmas turkey dinner
and some cold refreshments. The
highlight of the day was Grandma
Bakker celebrating her 99th
birthday.
In curling action the Monday
daytime winning skips were Pete
Eskritt, Stewart Leedham, Mac
Inglis, Ron McMichael, Hugh
Clugston and Glen McMichael.
The Monday night men’s winning
team for the first draw was the F.E.
Madill team skipped by Kyle
Forster.
Tuesday night ladies saw Jenn
Elston, Carol Horton and Sue Fair
pick up wins. The Tuesday
competitive league winning skips
were Earl Fitch, Bill and Aart
DeVos and Calvin Ruttan.
Wednesday night mixed league
action had Karen Burke, Wayne
Horton and Rob Middleton’s teams
pick up wins.
Thursday daytime winning skips
were Wendell Stamper, John Mann,
Leedham Inglis and the McMichael
brothers. Because of the funeral
reception the daytime curlers
started early for the second time in
a week.
The Thursday family action saw
teams skipped by Bill McDonald,
Kelsie Eadie, Phil Eadie and Elli
Schimanski come out on top. The
Belgrave league winners were Fred
Meier, Larry Robinson, Murray
Shiell and John Nixon.
Friday night team Simpson and
team Waechter picked up wins.
