The Brussels Atom Local League
had a very busy week.
On Monday, Nov. 30 they went to
Harriston.
Harriston was a strong team and
Brussels had a hard time getting a
goal. The game ended in a 4-0
whitewashing.
Wednesday was home to BCH for
another tough battle, but Brussels
came out on top this time taking the
game 2-0.
Thursday Brussels travelled to
Seaforth and had another workout. It
was back-and-forth action all game.
Jarron Thompson made some great
stops. Noah Terpstra scored one as
did Kailey Wheeler. Seaforth
however got four to take the victory.
Friday night the team went up
against Zurich in a nail biter.
Cody Harding put a nice one in,
but Zurich tied it up. Wheeler scored
and Zurich did the same.
Then with seconds left Zurich
scored again to win 3-2.
Brussels travelled to Zurich and
played a good game. It was a 4-2
loss however with Terpstra and
Harding scoring for Brussels.

The Brussels Atom Reps played
in a tournament in Clifford this past
weekend. There were eight teams
involved.
Their first game was at 8 a.m.
against Drayton. After a scoreless
first period Wyatt Machan calmly
flipped one in past the goalie to take
a 1-0 lead in the second.
Later in the third, playing
shorthanded, Logan Kellington
deked the goalie to add to the lead.
With just 0:18 left on the clock,
Machan moved the puck in Jack
Pipe’s direction so he could slam it
into the net.
Brussels won 3-0 to move them to
the A side.
At noon there was a skills
competition. There was a skating
relay, a shooting drill, a goalie
agility drill. Each team gained
points for the best times and the
most goals scored.
In the shooting drill, Brussels
scored seven times with four
shooters, Delayna Smith, Pipe,
Machan and Noah Terpstra.
Goalie Derrick Waechter was the
only goalie able to come away with
no shots scored on him in the 90-
second drill. Brussels came in third
overall.
At 2 p.m. they played Lucknow.
Lucknow took the lead late in the
first period. In the second period,
Machan tied it. One minute later,
Lucknow scored to again take the
lead. A short while later, they made
it 3-1.
With 2:55 left in the third,
Machan scored to make it 3-2.
Lucknow scored to widen the gap
to 4-2 and eventually won the game
to move on to the finals.
Joining the Reps from the Locals
were Terpstra, Brett Stevenson,
Kailey Wheeler, Jarron Thompson,
Ronan Jared, Cody Harding and
Mitch McKee.
The Atoms played against
Lucknow on Sunday, Dec. 6.
Lucknow got a 2-0 lead before
Brussels was able to score.
Kellington was the only player able
to get in the Lucknow net. He was
assisted by McKee. The final score
was 4-1.
Kudos to the defensive plays of
McKee, Stevenson, Ben Newell, and
Avery McArter. These four helped
to keep the puck away from the net
several times.
Joining the Reps from the local
team were Stevenson, McKee and
Noah Terpstra.
The Reps’ next game will be in
Lucknow on Saturday, Dec. 19.
Scramble
It was tense as the action found its way to the Brussels net but the local Novice Rep goalie
and defence got things in hand. The team was playing Ripley Friday night on home ice. (Vicky

hosted Milverton on Monday, Nov.
16. This game would see many
penalties handed out to both teams.
Blyth’s lone goal for this game came
from Cole McLean assisted by
Brendan Stretton and Aaron Popp.
The Bulldogs played hard during
the game, but lost to the Milverton
squad 5-1. Most of the components’
goals were scored on powerplays
proving the adage you can’t win
games from the penalty box. Nov. 18
saw the Midgets on the road to
Ripley.
The Wolves hit the scoreboard first
late in the first period.
Blyth rallied in the second with a
goal on a slapshot from the blue line
by Collin Whitfield, then Steven
Ellis scored assisted by John
Lecomte.
In the third period there was end-
to-end action with Blyth’s goalie
Alec Lorentz turning away many
shots.
Blyth scored the first goal in this
period, an unassisted effort by
Lecomte. This was followed by
another unassisted goal from Popp
before Ripley would reply. Then
with 7:34 left in the game, Connor
Prescott scored another unassisted
goal putting Blyth ahead for good in
this game.
The Wolves scored once more to
make the final score 5-3.
The Local League team travelled
to Clinton for an exciting game on
Thursday, Nov. 26.
Lecomte started the scoring with a
hard shot in the first assisted by
Andrew Hess.
BCH scored four time to take a 4-
1 lead.
Blyth’s Ryan Sjaarda scored
before the period was over assisted
by Hess to cut the Icedogs lead in
half.
In the second BCH scored first.
Lecomte then scored for Blyth,
assisted by Stretton.
The third period was all Blyth as
they scored three goals to take the
lead. Lecomte scored assisted by
Sjaarda, then again unassisted to tie
the game. Lucas Cooke took a pass
from Steven Ellis to score the go-
ahead goal and Blyth hung on for the
victory.
The final score was Blyth 6-5.
Zurich Thunder rolled in to Blyth
for the 9 p.m. start on Monday, Nov.
30. Hess scored the first goal of this
game assisted by Ryan Sholdice.
In the second, Zurich scored two to
put them ahead of the Blyth squad.
But Blyth narrowed the gap with a
goal by Connor Prescott, assisted by
Jordan Bakelaar.
The third period saw another Blyth
goal by Lecomte, assisted by Hess.
This would be the end of Blyth’s
scoring, but Zurich scored three to
hand Blyth the loss.
Lorentz turned away many shots
and played an excellent game in net
for his team.
Midget Locals play Milverton
The Blyth PeeWee Local League

Franken, two; Brandon Marshall,
Justin Rodgers, Brett Glousher,
Drew Bromley and Damien Brak
with assists going to Bromley,
