BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Nov. 29 was Barb
Richmond. Ushering were Nicole
Kerr, Brenda and Lori Brooks and
Terry Richmond. Organist was
Floyd Herman. Fred Hakkers ran the
Power Point.
Rev. Gary Clark welcomed
everyone to church this first Sunday
of Advent.
Blyth United is hosting the
Community Christmas service this
year on Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Jon Hakkers read a piece about
hope while Rev. Clark lit the candle
of hope in the Advent wreath.
The congregation watched a video
from Missions and Service. The first
hymn was Hope is a Star.
The call to worship was followed
by the children coming to the front
for their story. Rev. Clark gave each
of the children a green bracelet with,
choose your attitude.
He explained the Advent candles
to them. This morning was the
Candle of Hope. He said that hope is
believing something, like people
hope they can go to the hockey game
or go bowling in the future.
His hope was that people might
know peace throughout the world.
The next hymn was Jesus Came
Bringing Us Hope.
The children said an Advent
prayer with the congregation. They
gave a bracelet to everyone in the
congregation.
The scriptures were from
Jeremiah 33: 14-16 and Luke 21: 25-
36 read by Deb Hakkers.
The choir anthem was, So Near
We Can Feel It.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was, Choose Your Attitude. He
challenged everyone to look at the
future in the words of the advent
candles, the first being hope. If the
world is in turmoil, people can look
at it as waking up the world. This is
what the scriptures are talking about.
The damage they have done to the
skies, the sea and the land. People
can work together to help correct
these things.
The world leaders meet in
Copenhagen this month to try and
work together to improve the
climate situation. People have to
plan to make changes today for
tomorrow. They can decide today
what they can give next week for the
food bank and white gift. They must
make sure what they do will change
lives.
The next hymn was, O Come,
Emmanuel.
