Clerk-administrator Kriss Snell said that under the strategic plan the township had undergone a branding and marketing initiative, with the North Huron brand launched last fall. “Part of the marketing was to re- design the website,” said Snell. “Though the old site had been functional there was a problem with updating it in-house. This site is more user friendly.” Community development co- ordinator Connie Goodall took council through the site. She explained that a directory had been put together with the assistance of a summer student. “It’s very, very updated, with a listing of the businesses in the area.” These can be found by name or by category and can be updated by the business owners. The site also has the council minutes for the year, and a comprehensive listing of the recreation programs. “There is an events calendar which people can submit on-line, then we go on and okay it and it will go directly to the calendar,” said Goodall. Snell also pointed out a feature that allows users to increase the font size for easier reading. “It’s required by legislation,” he said. Forms for everything from building and demolition to registrations will be accessible on- line as well. Asked if the forms could be submitted on-line, Snell noted that most require an original signature so would still need to be printed off. The site, said Goodall, is almost ready for the public. “We are very close to going live.” In explaining the need to keep the site up to date, Snell said, “This is more of a living site for us. We can change things easily. It’s a tool we need to keep using.” PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2009.
