One Huron County department is planning to put a little less pressure on the levy for 2010. At committee of the whole, Nov. 10, director of public works Dave Laurie told county councillors that the draft budget for next year is sitting right now at approximately nine per cent lower than 2009. Behind the good news is infrastructure funding received this year that allowed the county to bring forward two paving projects. “So that took care of $2.3 million worth of paving that had been slated for 2010,” said Laurie. The savings will go into next year, and as there are no additional paving projects proposed, there will only be about three-quarters of the paving work that is normally done, said Laurie. But Laurie said that are also other ways the department is trying to keep lean. “We are trying to find better ways of doing things, through staff and equipment use. ” “The numbers aren’t official yet because we have to see at the end of the year where our spending is. But it should be fairly close to the nine per cent.” County hears some good news from public works director CORN & SOYBEANS • Fertilizer • Seed Wheat • Trucking Available We're all ready to receive your 2009 Come in and see us or give us a call and let us help you look after your crops.
