Aren’t we the lucky ones – more
sunshine and nice weather to make
this November fly on?
We’re all aware of the nice trips
that youth go on with the help of
local Lions Clubs and many of the
friendships made when far from
home, are keepers. One of those
friendships was blessed with a face-
to-face this past weekend.
Two summers ago Dennis Procter
of RR5, Brussels was part of the
Lions International Youth Exchange
and travelled to the Faro Islands in
Denmark. While there he met Yotam
Rozen from Israel and a new
friendship started. They have kept in
contact over the past two years,
strengthening the bond, and so
Yotam arrived here to see how
Dennis lives.
Israel and Morris-Turnberry were
duly examined and discussed. They
both respect the good work of Lions
International for the bonds that are
made at the teen years levels. Travel,
new knowledge of our world,
different customs, new geography
and new world friends are the
benefits that Dennis and Yotam and
several of our local teens have
gained over the years.
Families are always grateful to the
Lions Club for this opportunity to
participate in this International
exchange.
It’s a life-changing experience and
the Lions Club would love to help yo
with it. Just ask Dennis.
The beeboppers were out in full
force on Saturday evening at the
Community Centre and the music
provided by Keith and Gloria
Wilbee, Don Chesher, Marie and
Earl Flynn kept them moving. When
things got quiet Bill and Joseph
Flynn stepped up to get the squaredancing started. The library fundraisingcommittee, with lots of help fromtheir friends, had a capacity crowdall ready to dance. It was lots of funand a good way to improve healthand give the library project a boost. The Eiffel Tower is breathtaking, all lit up at night, so says Joan
Jacobs. She has just returned from a
great trip to France and England
with her brother Jim, his wife Patand her daughter Hope Button. Theage of buildings and streets was veryimpressive by our years.Nellie at the Hotel Foch in Pariswas the best hostess, who set thetone for a great trip. The roses inbloom at the gravesites where hergrandfather is buried were special. The piper at Vimy Ridge on Nov. 11was memorable.
Villages in England all have very
old stories to tell as well as things to
see. St. Ives was only one of many tocatch their fancy. It was a trip full of familymemories. Now to straighten it outso friends can understand how greatit really was.Only one more week to get readyfor the Santa Claus parade. It startsat 5 p.m. Nov. 28. See you there.Take care and be sure to wash yourhands often and for at least three
verses of Happy Birthday each time.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

There was a wonderful crowd at
the Remembrance Day services at
the Brussels Legion. Nearly 200
watched and participated in the
service led by President John Lowe
and Padre Sandra Cable.
Poppy chairman Catrina Josling
did a great job organizing the
service.
The parade marched to Melville
Presbyterian Church for the service
conducted by John Zortog. There
were nearly 80 people at the Branch
for lunch following the service.
A correction and apology to the
Nichol family. It is Al Nichol who is
in hospital in Wingham. We hope he
is doing better.
The Thursday night darts had 16
players. The first-place team was
Lawrence Machan and Marlene
Rutledge. In second were Roger
McHardy and Kaye Smith. The
high shots were by Gord Jacklin
shooting 114 and Deb Cann also
getting 114.
The Friday night supper had 50
people enjoying roast pork. This
week is roast beef and the Just for
Fun group will be playing.
Saturday’s euchre had seven
tables at play. First place went to
Joann MacDonald and Dorothy
Carter with 76 points. In second
were Bush Whittard and Olave
Little with 74 points and third went
to Helen MacKenzie and Betty
Hulley with 71 points. Low prizes
went to John and Iola Subject.
The lone hand prizes went to
Stuart Chamney and Delores
Howatt.
The Sunday night dance had
nearly 100 in attendance. The John
Heaman Band entertained.
Calendars are available at a
variety of stores in town. Please
pick up one today. Comrades can
pick up calendars to sell by coming
into the Branch.

So Munsch fun
Children’s author Robert Munsch surprised the staff and
students of Brussels Public School with a visit. The grade
2/3 class had written to him earlier with a VIP pass and
personal invitation to visit. Munsch entered the school
wearing the VIP badge and entertained the class with a
variety of his stories. He also stopped by a number of other
classrooms to say hello and treated them to a story or two
as well. (Photo submitted)
