Members headed out to the milk-ing barn to see how they milk the cows there. It was very interesting. Each member was given theopportunity to milk a cow. They thenwent into the milkhouse where theykeep the milk tank and also where allthe milk goes through after it comes from the cow.Next, they went to the barn thathad all the cows that get milkedhoused in. Mrs. Terpstra showedthem the different sections of thebarn that certain stages of cows were
kept in.
The Terpstra family milks about
300 head of cows.
Members went inside to learn
about choosing healthy meals and
including dairy into their regular
meals. They did an activity aboutchoosing healthy meals followingCanada’s Food Guide. They read intheir books about four differentmenus and they had to judge themfrom healthiest to non-healthiest.
The members all got to learn about
judging. After this activity, they
closed the meeting at 8 p.m. with the
4-H motto and a snack of source
cream dip with chips and a glass of
chocolate milk.

Blyth fire chief Paul Josling
attended the North Huron council
meeting Nov. 2 to ask a favour.
Saying he was there on behalf of
the Blyth firefighters, Josling
explained that the village may be
hosting the Firefighters Association
of Ontario convention in 2010 and
wondered if council would waive the
campground fees for the weekend.
This is the third time Blyth has
hosted the event, held on the Civic
Holiday weekend in August. The
fees have been reduced the previous
times. However, said Josling, “then
it was Blyth, this will be the North
Huron department.”
The township’s two fire area
boards are being disbanded in favour
of an amalgamated fire service for
the entire township.
“All the money we make stays in
the community,” said Josling.
He also noted that the last conven-
tion saw about 400 of the campsites
used.
Clerk-administrator Kriss Snell
said he felt that director of facili-
ties/recreation Pat Newson should be
involved in any discussion. The
request would be given further con-
sideration at the committee of the
whole, with an answer coming to
Josling within the week, council
decided.
