The weather had many folks out getting the rest of their fall cleanup done and farmers are getting the rest of the crops off. The corn crop is coming off, unfortunately with some pretty high moisture. The corn pile at P&H is surrounded by big straw bales and everyday goes up and then down in size. Unfortunately, this good weather is about a week late or more for helping the deer hunters last week. The deer had no problem hiding in cornfields and staying out of sight. Rick and Scott hunted with their bunch for just a couple of days and had 12 deer by Tuesday evening. The Glanville bunch had about a dozen with Joelle Glanville getting an eight- point buck. The area should have a few less deer around. The next hunt is the first week of December. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Trevor and Karen (DeVries) Sutcliffe. They were married on Oct. 24 in Drayton. Trevor is the son of John and Jean Sutcliffe and is the owner of T.S. Fabrications in Walton. A dinner and reception was held at the Listowel Golf and Country Club for family and friends. The newlyweds left for Miami, Florida for the first week of their honeymoon. Trevor’s best friend from England was part of Trevor’s wedding party and Trevor returned the favour and was part of his friend’s wedding party in Miami that week. Trevor and Karen then went on a Caribbean cruise for a week before returning to their home just east of Walton. Returning from a two-week trip to Hope, British Columbia is Agnes TenPas. Agnes was there to visit her daughter Linda and boys Kirk, 11 and Nicholas, 10. Linda’s husband, Pete, was on a business trip to Ottawa at thetime. Aggie reports having a lazy, relaxing time. The weather was likeours, wet, cloudy and at times very windy. One of Aggie’s important jobs while at Hope, was to look after the family’s new puppy, Peanut. He is a tiny wee fellow, a mix of teacup chihuahua and shitzu. The little puppy became quite attached to Agnes. She talked to Hank on the phone and the little Peanut is now a resident of the TenPas household. Agnes reports he was no trouble on the flight home from Vancouver to Toronto and stayed in his little carrier under her seat. She reports having a great visit with Linda and boys and has a sweet little memento of this trip to the west. The Walton Hall was a busy place on Friday evening with a pre- Christmas shopping party. There were 11 business people there displaying their wares ranging from Pampered Chef, Epicure,Tupperware, Usbourne books, Discovery Toys, Barmy Tech, Tomboy Tools (pink for women), Under the Moon, Steep Tea, MiaBella candles and more. The night was arranged by Tracey McKee (Pampered Chef) and was a great success. Friday night had the fire trucks from the Blyth Fire Department called to the farm of Scott McDonald. Smouldering straw became a concern with the wind becoming stronger and changing direction to blow towards the buildings. The firefighters were on the scene for a couple of hours putting water on the area. Judy Lee had an enjoyable day on Saturday joining her sister, Gloria Glanville and her niece, Cindy. They went on a bus trip to Toronto arranged by the Egmondville United Church. They visited the Royal Ontario Museum to see the exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The scrolls are over 2,000 years old and are a remarkable find. It was a very interesting day and an experience to see a piece of ancient history. Graeme and Helen Craig went to Toronto on Thursday for a ceremony of pomp and pageantry. They were invited to attend the Presentation of New Colours to The Royal Regiment of Canada and to the Toronto ScottishRegiment (Queen Elizabeth TheQueen Mother’s Own). They werebeing presented by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, Colonel-in-Chief, Prince Charles. He was accompanied by Her Royal Highness, Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall. The presentations were made at Varsity Stadium in Toronto. Following the arrival of the Regiments and His Royal Highness, they watched the inspection of the Regiments, the Consecration and Presentation of the Colours and listened to the address by Prince Charles. They report it was an interesting afternoon. Our condolences are expressed to the Wilbee family on the passing of Roy Wilbee. Roy was the brother of Ian Wilbee. Roy was a life-long veterinarian in Boisevain, Manitoba. He was married to Eunice and was the father of five children. The Walton fall supper was a great success reaching the goal of 700 folks. The supper was held at the BMG Community Centre and it was a very busy place for two and a a half hours. At the beginning of Duff’s service Sunday Helen Craig thanked all who helped on Tuesday prep day and those who worked extremely hard on Wednesday. Duff’s Remembrance Sunday service was attended by a nice crowd and Rev. Peter’s sermon was entitled, From Emptiness to Fullness. The scripture reader was Jo-Ann McDonald and the collection was taken by Jackie Glanville and Teresa Baan. Announcements included that baptism will be held in both congregations on Nov. 15, breakfast will be held in Walton on Nov. 29 and the UCW will hold its Christmas dinner on Dec. 2.
