On Tuesday, fed steers and heifers sold on a steady market. Choice steers and heifers sold $81 to $85 with sales to $88.50. Second cut sold $78 to $81. Cows sold on a strong active trade. On Thursday veal sold on a good strong active trade at steady prices. Heavy lambs sold $5 to $8 lower. Light lambs, sheep and goats sold steady. On Friday steer calves sold $2 to $3 higher, while all other cattle sold on a steady market. There were 266 steers on offer. Members of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture have acclaimed six members to their 18- member board of directors. Most recently, Peter Lambrick from Halton Region was acclaimed as a director-at-large, allowing him to maintain his position on the board. Nominations for that post closed Nov. 2. Nominations for directors from five of the 15 OFA zones were held earlier this year and closed June 26. Each of the positions was filled by acclamation: Mark Wales, Zone 4 (Elgin and Oxford); Joe Vermunt, Zone 7 (Huron and Perth); Mark Reusser, Zone 9 (Waterloo, Wellington and Dufferin); Keith Currie, Zone 13 (York, Simcoe and Peel); and Alex Ferguson, Zone 14 (Prescott, Russell, Glengarry and Stormont). Delegates to OFA’s annual general meeting will elect the OFA president and two vice-presidents on Nov. 23. Nominations for those positions will remain open until the time of the election at the meeting and must be in writing from two OFA members and presented to OFA general manager Neil Currie. Eligible candidates for these positions are any of the 18 members of the board of directors. Currently in those positions are: Bette Jean Crews, president; and vice-presidents Don McCabe and Mark Wales. The executive committee position, currently held by Wendy Omvlee, will be elected by the board at its first meeting following the annual meeting. Delegates to the annual meeting are chosen by local Federations of Agriculture across the province.
