Tourney time
It was a busy time in Brussels this past weekend as the
arena hosted Atom and PeeWee Local League teams in a
tournament. Here the local squad faced-off against Mount
Forest in a game that went into overtime to determine a
winner. Mount Forest took the title by a score of 2-1. (Vicky

The hockey schedule is now in full
swing and the Blyth Bantam Reps
saw four games in eight days starting
Oct. 28 against Brussels.
Blyth travelled to Brussels and got
off to an equal start against the home
team. The first period resulted in a
penalty to both teams, but ended
with no score for either side.
Brussels came out early in the
second with two quick goals and
finished up the period with one
more.
Blyth added two more penalties,
but remained scoreless after two.
Brussels scored again early in the
third, but Blyth showed some speed
and determination in the final
minutes of the game with Ryan
Nesbitt, assisted by Rob Hoftyzer,
getting Blyth on the board. Hoftyzer
added Blyth’s second goal, a shot
from the red line that found the back
of the Brussels net, with 13.4
seconds remaining in the third.
Unfortunately the Blyth fury came
too late and had to settle for the 4-2
loss.
The team travelled to
Southampton Oct. 30. The boys
came out fast and furious in the first
showing good passing, but they were
unable to get past the hometeam
goalie.
Blyth was rewarded halfway
through the second with a great
breakaway goal by Mike VanWyk.
Spencer Stevenson doubled the
Blyth score, assisted by Wyatt Carey
and Hoftyzer.
The third period was full of
penalties on both sides but
Southampton managed to get only
one past Kennan MacDonald before
the period came to an end with Blyth
taking the 2-1 win.
Elma Logan travelled to Blyth
Nov. 1 and opened the scoring less
than a minute into the game. Joel
Pizzati, assisted by Mike VanWyk,
netted one five minutes later.
Stevenson and Matt VanWyk added
Blyth’s second goal, but Elma Logan
responded by tying it up before the
end of the first.
Elma Logan came out strong in
the second and had a 5-2 lead
halfway through the period. Blyth
just couldn’t get any passes together
that would result in scoring chances.
Despite a lot of scoring
opportunities and stepped-up
physical play, Blyth just couldn’t put
any more in the opposing net.
Elma Logan got one more in the
third taking this game with a score of
6-2.
For the final game in this set,
Blyth travelled to Howick. Blyth had
a very successful first period with
Matt VanWyk getting the hattrick
and Wes Thompson, Mike VanWyk,
and Kyle Pollard building the score
to 6-0 by the end of the first.
Dalton Richmond added another
to the scoreboard in the second.
Howick spent most of the third
period shorthanded due to 12
minutes of penalties and Blyth
continued their scoring with Nathan
Plunkett and Pizzati, with two
finishing up the third.
MacDonald had his first shutout of
the season.

taking an 8-0 victory.

Terpstra, Ronan Jarrad and Kailey
Wheeler, assisted by Chris Hruska,
Brett Stevenson, Hudson Smith and
Nolan Johnston.
The second game was against
Lucknow. This game was a little
more work but Cody Harding and
Terpstra took turns putting the puck
in. Jarod and Darren Evans assisted.
The final score was 4-2.
Brussels went into the finals
against Mount Forest. This game
was even more work but they never
gave up. Terpstra scored the only
goal with Mitchell McKee assisting.
Mount Forest put one in and the
game went into overtime. Mount
Forest scored to win and give
Brussels silver.
Goalies Konrad and Jarron
Thompson played well in net.
