Blyth was on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal by Steven Ellis. This would be the only goal scored in the first period. Lucknow scored two goals in the second before Blyth answered back with a beautiful goal by Jordan Bakelaar, assisted by Lucas Cooke and Andrew Hess. John Lecomte got the go-ahead goal in the third assisted by Brendan Stretton. The game was tied once again as Lucknow scored. Blyth had several shots on the net with many great chances, but this game ended at 3-3. Alec Lorentz played well in net for Blyth. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2009. PAGE 9. The Blyth Brussels Bantam girls had their first home game Wednesday, Oct. 28 against Tiverton. The girls started out well in the first period with a goal scored by Courtney Middegaal, assisted by Tori Cardiff. But Tiverton came back early in the second to score two. The girls seemed to lose their steam as the game went on and Tiverton scored again. Then in the third period Heidi Raynard pulled off an unassisted goal leaving the team some hope to tie it up. Despite their efforts the final score was 3-2 for Tiverton. Good effort by goalie Justine Reid. Season begins for Bantam girls Just short The Brussels Bulls of the Novice Local League had a tough game against the BCH Ice Dogs on Oct. 28, losing by an eventual 13-1 final score. (Shawn Loughlin photo) The Saugeen Maitland PeeWee A Lightning opened the regular season with a double-header victory over the London Devilettes in Howick. In game one Miranda Lantz, Mildmay and Lexi Smith, Brussels each scored in the first period as the Lightning held off a third-period barrage by the visitors for a 2-1 win. Tori Terpstra, Sammi Pruden and Neve Van Pelt earned assists and Cassidy Becker defended the twine. Saugeen repeated a 2-1 victory in the second game on goals from Ashlee Lawrence, Owen Sound and Ally Speilmacher, Durham. Helpers went to Terpstra, Lantz and Lawrence as Rebecca Ropp guarded the house. Tough battle While Blyth was on the losing end of this goal, they also had four of their own to make last Saturday’s tilt with Milverton a close one.
