Ushering were Nicole Kerr, Lori Brooks,Terry Richmond and Emily Phillips. Fred Hakkers ran the power point. The call to worship was followed by the first hymn, Jesus Loves Me and the Prayer of Approach. The scripture reading was John 3: 16-17. The Martin sisters were asked to come and pour the water into the baptism font and the children gathered around the font while the water was blessed. They were asked to return to their seats for baptism. The babies were introduced to the congregation. They were Madison Olivia Montgomery, daughter of Ryan and Jessica Montgomery and Addison Arletta Martin, daughter of Brett and Leanne (Haggitt) Martin. Rev. Clark introduced each of the baby girls to the congregation after baptizing them. The choir sang a special song, It’s A Wonderful World, for Leanne (former member of the choir) and the babies. The children went downstairs for the time of worship and fellowship. The second scripture was from Luke 4: 1-13. Rev. Clark’s message to the adults was, Lust/Love, A Baby Shall Show the Way. Lust is when people want tocontrol the people around them allthe time. Lust is about power.Jesus was tempted by the Devil toturn the stone into bread but He saidno. People dig big holes in theground to make cheap power butthey forget the cost of what that lustdoes to the earth.Jesus said not to the Devil when offered all the kingdoms in the land. Jesus said he would love God. In the scripture the Devil tested Jesus the third time by asking Him to jump off the top of the temple and the angels would catch Him. Jesussaid no, He would not test God inthat way.Love is the answer to Lust. The choir anthem was, Love’s OldSweet Song. The Prayer of Confession wasfollowed by the next hymn, ComeLet Us Sing of a Wonderful Love. The offering was received followed by the Prayers for the World and the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn was, It Only Takes a Spark. Jessica Sparling of Blyth is a freshman at Cornell University studying Human Biology. After an invitation to try-out for one of the spots available for “walk-on” athletes, she has become a member of the Cornell Division 1 Crew Team. Sparling was a successful high school and club athlete in other sports, but she had never rowed until attending Cornell. Crew is the only Cornell sports program that permits non-recruited athletes to compete for a place on the roster. And all but a handful of the 171 members of the men’s and women’s crew teams are recruits from North America and Europe; the rest are walk-ons like Sparling. The team trains two to three hours each day, six days a week, and after weeks of practice, Sparling earned a seat in the first major regatta of the fall season, the Princeton Chase at Princeton University on Oct. 25. Sparling rows in an eight-person boat in the Novice (Freshman) Division, and her boat finished eighth of 18 schools. Cornell had 34 boats row in the Chase, with 15 placing in the top 10. The final event of the fall season was the Syracuse Invitational at Syracuse University held on Oct. 31. Sparling’s Novice-8 finished in first place. During the winter, the team will continue to practise at indoor facilities on the Cornell campus and at a training camp in Florida in preparation for the spring season.
