won the general proficiency award
for Grade 12, the Dr. A.J. Irwin
scholarship.
Watson was also awarded the
Governor General Award, which is
given to the student with the highest
academic standing in the graduating
class.
Watson also won proficiency
awards in Business Leadership, Co-
operative Education and Social
Science and Humanities.
She also won the Menzies
Endowment Fund award for
graduating from Brussels Public
School and having the highest
average in 11 senior courses and the
Oldfield Memorial Arts scholarship,
presented to a student who graduated
from Brussels Public School who
has a high academic standing and is
proceeding to post-secondary
education in art, music or English.
The Student Council award also
went to Watson for her insistence on
giving back to the student body and
participation in the three prongs of
the Big M: academics, athletics and
activities.
Watson was also given a Big M
award for earning three intermediate
awards for academics, athletics and
activities as well as the Queen
Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top
Scholarship.
Ellen Jefferson also won several
proficiency awards, including
Mathematics of Data Management,
Advanced Functions and Chemistry.She was also named to the OntarioScholar list.In addition, Jefferson won theQueen Elizabeth II Aiming For TheTop scholarship and the Big M
award.
The Henderson Memorial award
went to Jefferson as well for her
superior academic abilities and her
work at bettering humanity with the
school and the community.
Robyn Nicholson won proficiency
awards in Music and Art and the
OSSTF District 8 scholarship for
being a good citizen and
contributing positively to the school
academically and co-curricularly.
Nicholson also won the Mustangs
On The Move award for a student
who contributed to the school and
has now moved onto post-secondary
education or to a workplace.
Also named an Ontario Scholar,
Nicholson also took home the Queen
Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top
scholarship.
Dan Stapleton, in addition to being
named an Ontario Scholar, won the
Bieman award, which is given to a
deserving student entering their first
year at the University of Guelph and
the Royal Canadian Legion Branch
180 (Wingham) award, given to a
student in good academic standing
who is the son of a war veteran or a
member of the Legion or the Legion
Ladies Auxiliary.
Darby Alcorn won the Huron
Women Teachers Association
scholarship, which is presented to a
female student in Huron County who
will pursue a post-secondary
education in the field of education
and has shown leadershipthroughout secondary school.Alcorn also won the Jean McEwenMemorial scholarship, given todeserving students from HuronCounty who will be attending post-
secondary education and the School
Council Senator and Student Senator
awards given to a school council
member who is the student
representative on the school council
and the student senator for F.E.
Madill on the Avon Maitland District
School Board for 2008-2009.
Alcorn was also an Ontario
Scholar and was awarded with the
school’s Big M award.
Sean Cook was awarded the
Madill Secondary School Teaching
Staff award to recognize students
who have demonstrated high
scholastic standing and good
citizenship as well as the proficiency
award for Technological Design.
Kari Bell won the Pinecrest Manor
award given to a student who is
proceeding to post-secondary
studies in the health sciences field
and have exhibited good school
citizenship.
Bell also won the Menzies
Endowment Fund award for
graduating from Brussels Public
School and having the highest
average in 11 senior courses as well
as the school’s Big M award.
Ellerey Lorentz, in addition to
being named an Ontario Scholar,
won the proficiency award for drama
as well as the School Advisory
Council award for a student who
attended Howick Central School and
is proceeding to further education
