By Ryan Baan, Press Reporter
The fourth and fifth meeting of the
Grey 4-H Club’s project, Milk
Makes it Better was held on
Saturday, Oct. 24 at the home of
Barb Terpstra.
The meeting was called to order at
9 a.m. with the 4-H pledge by vice-
president Chelsey Terpstra.
This meeting was all about cheese
and yogurt. To start off, they tried
different cheeses, brie, feta,
limburger, blue, mozzarella, light
cheddar, mild cheddar, five-year-old
cheddar, swiss (gruyere), cottage
cheese, goat cheese, ricotta, cream
cheese and cheese curds. They tasted
every one of them and were very full
when they were done.
Vice-president Chelsey thanked
Cranbrook Dairy Farms for donating
all the cheeses for this meeting.
Next, leader Barb Terpstra
demonstrated how to make
mozzarella cheese. It was pretty
cool to see. Once the cheese was
made, she rolled the cheese out into
little balls for each of the members to
eat, it was still warm and very tasty.
Now that’s fresh cheese.
Next, the club learned about
yogurt and then made a batch. Each
member had a turn at helping with it.
But since yogurt has to sit for eight
hours, the club got to eat some
yogurt that Barb had made
previously. First they had to taste it
plain, it tasted a little like sour
cream. So they added maple syrup
for some sweetness and then we
either were allowed to put peach,
raspberry, or blueberry-rhubarb jam
into the yogurt for flavour.
