Sewing some love Students at Hullett Central Public School got their first lesson in crocheting milk bags on Monday as they had been collecting the bags for months to get to this point. The students will be crocheting the bags into mats to be sent to third-world countries, where they can be used. Jazlen Wright, left, and Avery Wright were two of the many hard workers giving it their all. (Shawn Loughlin photo) The Citizen’s website,www.northhuron.on.ca now has a new look and a wealth of new information. The website combines content from North Huron Publishing Company Inc.’s three publications to provide a comprehensive information package for people living in Huron County. On The Citizen’s portion of the website, you’ll find breaking news as our reporters post a synopsis of the events they’re covering prior to full coverage in Thursday’s issue of the paper. A sport section will provide the latest scores as quickly as we can get them. The Huron Home and Garden section will bring stories and tips for the home and garden enthusiast. Bargains from our advertisers are features in a Deals section and other advertisers will be featured in a rotating basis on the website as well as a listing where shoppers can see the ads of all those advertising on the site. The combined resources of our publications will allow us to bring you an entertainment section that is a one-stop source of entertainment information in Huron County. Every week our photographers attend events and shoot dozens of photographs, only a handful of which we have room for in the weekly newspaper. Now you’ll be able to see a slide show of many more of those pictures and see if you or a family member might have been captured. Coming soon will be video coverage of some events. “With the decline of local television coverage we want to help fill the gap with video news coverage,” said publisher Keith Roulston. Also on the new website is information from Stops Along the Way , the three-times-a-year tourist guide published by North Huron Publishing. Included on this part of the site is the magazine’s comprehensive listing of upcoming events, updated regularly to include listings that weren’t available when the guide went to press. Also providingupdated information is the “News for Huron Visitors” section which will provide information on newly- announced events. The Stops Along the Way portion of the site gives local readers easy access to the tips given to travellers in the magazine, including attractions to visit, outdoor activities, museums, daytrips to make in various parts of the county, listings of restaurants that have advertised in the publication and accommodations. The Rural Voice, the company’s widely read monthly farm magazine, is also part of the new site. Readers will have access to some of the magazine’s columns, such as the popular comic antics of the coffee-shop gang at Mabel’s Grill and the thought-provoking comments of John Beardsley and Keith Roulston. Selected articles from past issues will be available in the “Features” section of in the “Advice” section. The website will also allow The Rural Voice to provide the latest news in its “Breaking News” section. Three other unique features have been made part of www.northhuron.on.ca to provide information for county and area residents. Jobs In Huron is an on- line source of information on jobs being offered. In future employers will be able to directly post jobs on this part of the site, for a small fee. The My Community section will allow local clubs and service groups to have an online newsletter they can update themselves. There will be a nominal charge to recover the costs of providing the newsletter. As a service for those researching local history, the company is posting local information gathered by our staff over nearly 25 years of writing about the area. It’s hoped to expand this to a county-wide history source in future. “The site will be growing every week as we try to make it a vital resource for Huron County,” said Roulston. “We hope it will just get better and better.” The shots begin Public health nurse Sandra Feltz administers a seasonal flu shot at the first clinic for Huron residents 65 years of age and older. Over 250 people turned up at the Seaforth Community Centre, Oct. 14 for the vaccine.
