The Brussels Legion Pipes and
Drums received an Ontario Trillium
Foundation (OTF) grant of $15,000
to help them make the purchase of
some much needed band
supplies.
The pipers in the band own their
own bagpipes, however, the drums
and all the uniforms belong to the
band and are loaned to each member
to use. When they leave the band all
of this equipment must be returned
to the band.
Many of these kilts, doublets,
glengarrys, sporans, hosetops, cross
belts, waist belts and plaids
have been passed back and
forth from band member to
band member for many years...in
fact, some since the band began in
1952 and they are worn out.
To keep the band looking and
performing at its best, some of this
equipment has to be replaced. The
club acknowledges the Ontario
Trillium Foundation and Wendy
Dempsey, local program
manager, for helping make this
possible.
Support has come over the years
from the Brussels Legion.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation
is an agency of the Government of
Ontario. For over 25 years, the
Foundation has supported the
growth and vitality of communities
across the province.
As I write this, we’re having a wee
dry spell. It’s lovely and truly
appreciated. The fields are busy
spots, being harvested, planted and
layers rearranged by many different
pieces of farm equipment.
Using the good weather available,
a lot was accomplished on the
weekend. The lights from the
machinery in many fields on
Saturday night reminded us of thedependence on nature for our foodand the farm families that handle thisstress every day of our lives. The North Huron Food Share helda much needed fundraiser inWingham United Church with aCeltic theme on Saturday. Severalarea folk were there to support thisnecessary work and enjoyed a lively
evening of music and Scottish
humour. Remember to support our
Food Share with items, cash and
cheques.
Hello from Mary Bone. Several
Brussels friends went to London for
a visit and enjoyed their time
together with lunch.
The organizers for the United
Church silent auction were smiling
wearily by Saturday evening. The
many unique donations had all
found new homes. The successfulbidders were smiling; the profit wasrevealed and Jean, Rene, Julie andShawna can get back to their ownlives. Thanks everyone for any helpyou gave.Maybe by Halloween weekendeveryone will be out of the ghostlyspirits. Blyth held a successfulWitches Walk on Saturday evening
with several area folk attending this
adrenaline spiking event. Good
weather made it more pleasant for
the many volunteers waiting on the
path.
By Wednesday, this week, the
haunted church will be ready for
visitors. The United Church likes
visitors anytime, but under the
supervision of Charles Corbett, the
whole building takes on a life of its
own.
Visitors are welcome each eveningand Saturday afternoon is a goodtime to bring small children. If youjust need a candy apple or caramelcorn, drop by for your treat.Wingham high school’scommencement is Friday eveningand we’re pretty proud that LindsayWatson is the valedictorian.Hopefully we’ll see many of the
teens who are away at many
different schools of higher learning
home to celebrate this step in their
lives. Well done.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
