The Brussels Legion Pipes and Drums received an Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grant of $15,000 to help them make the purchase of some much needed band supplies. The pipers in the band own their own bagpipes, however, the drums and all the uniforms belong to the band and are loaned to each member to use. When they leave the band all of this equipment must be returned to the band. Many of these kilts, doublets, glengarrys, sporans, hosetops, cross belts, waist belts and plaids have been passed back and forth from band member to band member for many years...in fact, some since the band began in 1952 and they are worn out. To keep the band looking and performing at its best, some of this equipment has to be replaced. The club acknowledges the Ontario Trillium Foundation and Wendy Dempsey, local program manager, for helping make this possible. Support has come over the years from the Brussels Legion. The Ontario Trillium Foundation is an agency of the Government of Ontario. For over 25 years, the Foundation has supported the growth and vitality of communities across the province. As I write this, we’re having a wee dry spell. It’s lovely and truly appreciated. The fields are busy spots, being harvested, planted and layers rearranged by many different pieces of farm equipment.
