Happy birthday to Randy Fraser who celebrates Oct. 18. Happy birthday to Joyce Craig of Atwood who celebrates Oct. 19. Come on Morris-Turnberry people and get your thinking caps on for the stories that the municipality of Morris-Turnberry history committee is looking for. We have some interesting ones and are looking for more. We would like to have stories about every lot in the township, stories of people living in the municipalities or have lived in the municipalities. Mail them to the municipal office at 41342 Morris Rd., RR 4, Brussels, ON N0G 1H0 or to myself Marilyn Craig at 40182 Moncrieff Rd., RR 2, Blyth, ON N0M 1H0 and I will see that they get to the right place. Here is the date to mark on your calendar. Monday, Oct. 26 euchre is starting for the winter months. Please notice the change of time. It is 1:30 p.m. in the Legion Hall. Come out and enjoy the fun and fellowship. Continued from page 1 interest in the communities. “They show up in their foreign cars, and they don’t live in this area.” “Twenty-six per cent of the tax base goes to education,” said Seili. “When the schools leave the assessment goes down, and the funding goes down. We can watch it go and wave goodbye or take a stand.” Bluewater councillor Dave Johnston said he agreed with Seili that the issue goes beyond education. “This is about economic development and future growth. We have to give that consideration or you will see our communities drying up.” Oke countered that the school board is not interested in economic development. “But we should be and should be very forceful in our efforts,” said Johnston. Oke noted too that representation from the municipality is “going to be a very small minority” on this issue. “Not collectively sitting in this room,” said Johnston. “If our voice is strong, our voice united, we might be heard.” Judy Sgro, the Member ofParliament for York West and the Official Opposition Critic for Seniors and Pensions, announced Oct. 5 that she has added Blyth area native Greg McClinchey to her staff. McClinchey, who has served the House of Commons since 1993, accepted the position of Sgro’s executive assistant last month. McClinchey said, “I have spent the last 16 years working on important issues at both the staff level and as a municipal councillor. When I was presented with the opportunity to engage on policy items impacting on seniors and pensions, I jumped at the chance.... I am eager to roll up my sleeves and get started.” 408 Queen St., Blyth 519-523-9515 October 24 - 10 am - 5 pm 10%OFF All Fabric Free Gifts ~ Door Prizes Coffee & Cake TOWNSHIP OF NORTH HURON BLYTH WARD HYDRANT FLUSHING NOTICE As part of regular system maintenance, the water department will be conducting a hydrant and main flushing program during the hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday, October 19, 2009 to Friday, October 23, 2009.
