Mike Clarke (above) was one of the main attractions at last weekend’s Fall Colour Tour at the
Wawanosh Nature Centre. Left: volunteers were called up and given a chance to participate
in Clarke’s birds of prey demonstration put on by Mike Clarke. The tour, put on by the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority and the Maitland Conservation Foundation, featured many
opportunities for the budding photographer with wagon rides and hikes. (Shawn Loughlin photos)

Morris-Turnberry councillors
decided at a special meeting Sept. 24
that they want their share of the
assets of the Wingham Area Fire
Board in cash.
In a recorded vote council passed a
motion to ask for $420,790.20 in
cash by the end of the year. A second
motion said the money would go into
reserves. Only councillor Paul
Gowing voted against each motion.
(Councillor Mark Beaven was not
present until later in the meeting).
Earlier in the meeting council had
turned down a motion by councillor
Lynn Hoy to purchase the Wingham
Fire Hall as part of its settlement.
The cost as listed in the department’s
list of assets is $331, 500. Only Hoy
and mayor Dorothy Kelly supported
the motion.
Council also accepted a revised
map of areas to be served by the
North Huron and Huron East fire
departments and will proceed to
prepare and mail a request for
proposals to meet a target date of
Nov. 3.
As well, council accepted the job
profile for the position of
community fire safety officer and
will advertise the position.
