The week at the Brussels Legion
Branch began with a special
occasion evening for the Brussels
Optimist Club. They held their
annual ladies’ night and had their
installation of officers.
The evening began with the group
of over 30 enjoying a social hour
before sitting down to a roast beef
dinner provided by the Legion
catering. The group then held their
installation and a short meeting.
Comrades assisting with the
evening meal included John Lowe,
Deb Cann, Rick and Jo-Ann
McDonald and Mabel Glanville.
The sports sheets are now at the
Branch. Comrades interested in
participating in sports events should
drop into the Branch and check out
the dates. Mixed double darts will be
on Oct. 17, mixed team darts on Oct.

Nov. 28, single darts on Dec. 12,
double darts on Jan. 2 and euchre on
Jan. 16.
Interested Comrades, mark your
dates and drop into the Branch to
find out particulars of the events.
The Friday night supper of ham
and scalloped potatoes was enjoyed
by a good crowd of nearly 50. The
lounge was still set up from the
Optimist dinner and looked very
nice.
This week celebrates
Thanksgiving and the menu will be
roast pork.
There were 12 1/2 tables of euchre
players hoping to be the big winners
of the day at the regular Saturday
afternoon euchre. The top prize went
to Betty and Bernice with 79 points.
The second place team was Tom and
Eileen Sloan earning 77 points and
Dorothy Carter and Joann
MacDonald placed third with 69
points. The low prize for the day
went to Willis and Betty with low
points of 42.
Lone-hand winners were Ariel
Woods and John Brown.
The Sunday night dance featured
the music of John Heaman. There
was an avid crowd of nearly 100 on
hand.
The lucky early bird draw winner
for the month of September was
Mabel Glanville. She has won her
dues for the 2010/2011 year at the
Branch. There will be draws for the
months of October and November,
so drop in and pay your dues. You
can save money and have a chance to
win.
The Branch is still collecting pop
tabs and the Cadets are collecting the
pop cans. Drop both off at the
Branch.
Comrades Mabel Glanville and
Sharon Robbins went to Parkwood
Hospital in London as part of Zone
C1 entertainment day. They took
with them a dozen goody bags to be
distributed to those in need.
Thanks to Marg Bennett for
putting them together.
The ladies enjoyed the day and
visiting with the patients brought
down to enjoy the afternoon’s
entertainment.
