both brought on by the windy and
rainy conditions making their way
through the village.
Just before 2:30 p.m., there was an
outage that resulted in 39 Hydro
One customers losing power said
Danielle Gauvin, Hydro One’s
media officer. This outage was
brought on by a combination of
factors, including the weather and an
insulator giving out.
Power was restored to the nearly
40 households at 3:50 p.m.
At 5:18 p.m., 52 Hydro One
customers lost power. This was due
to a tree coming down along the
power line near the distribution
centre in Clinton. Power was
restored to these households,
however, by 7:15 p.m., just two
hours later.

BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Oct. 4 was Joann
MacDonald. Ushering were Karen
Glousher, Arletta Hallahan and Fred
Hakkers. Bryce Glousher ran the
power point.
The stewards want people to share
their talents in a silent auction on
Nov. 21.
The call to worship was followed
by the first hymn, Come You
Thankful People Come, and the
prayer of approach.
The scripture reading was I Kings
21: 1-21.
The children were asked to come
to the front for their storytime.
Brett Glousher lit the candles
at the front of the church. Rev. Gary
Clark asked them what envy
meant? He explained to them that
envy is when you see someone
with something you would like.
People forget what they have and
are sad when they can’t have
what someone else has. Instead
he said, they should be thankful
for what they have and not envy
others.
Brett Glousher carried the Christ
candle downstairs for the time of
fellowship.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was, Envy or Gratitude? You
Choose. In the dictionary envy
means to feel discontent and
jealousy because of something a
person has that one wants. In
Biblical times it was thought if you
could conquer envy and pride (the
first two of the seven sins) you
would be all right. Envy steals
life.
The first four out of five
commandments are about pride and
the last four out of five are about
envy.
In the scripture King Ahab wanted
to buy Naboth’s vineyard to
plant vegetables and herbs in it.
Naboth said it was against the law
for him to sell his inheritance
and said no. Ahab went home
heavy hearted because he wanted
the vineyard. He told his wife Jezebel and she saw to it that Naboth was stoned to death andAhab could now have his vineyard. To learn gratitude is to say thankyou. Saying thank you is more thangood manners, it is good spirituality, said Rev. Clark. If the only prayerwe say is thank you, that is all that isneeded.
The next hymn, Forgive Our Sins
As We Forgive, was followed by the
offering being received, the prayersof Thanksgiving and the singing ofThe Lord’s Prayer. The choir anthem was, I Come tothe Table. Serving communion wereJoan Clark, Fred Meier, MyrtleBadley and Jon Hakkers. The last hymn, which was NowThank We All Our God, wasfollowed by the commissioning,
benediction and the singing of the
three-fold amen.
