A list of in motion events can be
found at www.hpinmotion.ca.
The need to get residents in
motion is clear. Health unit statistics
stated that in Huron County only
about half of residents aged 12 and
over are active enough for health.
More than half of adults are
overweight or obese and heart
disease is the number one cause of
death.
As well, over one quarter of
children are overweight or obese.
Encouraging people to be in motion
can help address some of these
concerns.Brussels

Sunday, Sept. 20 was a fantasticday at the Wingham Golf andCurling Club as the club held its
seventh annual fall barbecue and
received record attendance.
Cardiff Catering did a great job
again and Jeff reported 678 hungry
patrons enjoyed the ham and beef
supper.
Lloyd Morrison, head of the
organizing committee did a terrific
job with excellent assistance from
many volunteers.
In conjunction with the barbecue
this year the club held a silent
auction. This also was a huge
success.
The Cottrill family, Mike,
Donelda and Shawn did a
tremendous amount of work
gathering items to auction and
should be very proud of their effort
and the ultimate result.
It was also great to see the golf
course booked solid for the day
and the staff hopes everyone had
lots of fun and had a great time on
and off the course.
Monday the Red Hat ladies
joined us at the club for lunch. Thegals enjoyed soup and kaisers andthe staff was happy to have them.
Tuesday night the club hosted a
group from Keil Insurance. The
weather was hot and dry and Bill
and his friends and co-workers
enjoyed a game of golf and a steak
supper after in the clubhouse.
Wednesday’s senior men again
had a dull looking day to play golf.
They had 14 golfers and the
winners were first, Jamie
Sanderson; second, Wayne Gordon
and third John Tyrell.
Winners of the men’s match play
was Doug Neil who edged out Bob
Gavreluk in the final.
Thursday night men had 40
golfers this past week, again great
numbers. Winners were: closest to
the pin, Dave Gamble; longest putt,
Rob Gallaher, Russ Taylor and
Corey Hayter; hidden scores, Aart
DeVos and Joe Clark; low gross,
Gamble with a great 34.
There was a tie for second at 38
between Don Rae and Zach
O’Krafka.
Friday, Sept. 26 the WinghamGolf and Curling Club hosted agroup from the Home Equity
Reward. Eighty-seven gals and
guys enjoyed a delicious roast beef
supper.
Saturday the Soers family and
friends joined us for nine holes of
golf and lunch. There were 27
golfers and everyone enjoyed the
day.
Later in the day the
Kuyvenhoven group, representing
the Upper Deck Youth Centre came
out to the club and played 18 holes
of golf before joining in at the
clubhouse for a beef supper.
The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club would like to congratulate
Mark Hakkett, an employee at the
club, for his hole in one on the
difficult par three second hole.
