Sunday, Aug. 30 the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club was host to
George Oriold and the Wroxeter
group. The weather was
unpredictable all day – off and on
rain and sunshine. Despite the
conditions 30 golfers played nine
holes and enjoyed a roast beef
supper in the clubhouse. There
were 42 all together who took in
the delicious meal.
Monday a group of ladies
celebrated the 80th birthday of
twins Frances Bremner and Nora
Stephenson by joining together
with family and friends for a
luncheon at the clubhouse.
The Tuesday ladies showed some
signs that school was back in and
moms and grandmothers were busy
getting kids off to class. Around 20
of the gals enjoyed a beautiful
sunny day and a relaxing game of
golf. The manager noticed that
some of the girls do a lot of talking
to their golf balls telling it what to
do before hitting it.
Wednesday morning senior men
had 26 golfers out playing on a
terrific sunny day. Teeswater boy
Gord Cerson finished first with
Bob Johnston second and Gerry
Edwards third. Ed Daer had the low
gross shooting a 37. Anyone
wishing to golf with a great bunch
of guys is more than welcome to
join this group. It seems to increase
in number every week.
Thursday night men again had a
great turnout with 53 golfers taking
advantage of a beautiful September
night. The winners were: longest
drive, Pat Rozendal; longest putt,
Dan McBurney and Rob Harrison;
closest to the pin, Doug Rathwell
and Larry Pellett; hidden scores,
Richard Watson, Doug
Vanderwoude and Peter Inglis and
most honest Lloyd Erb.
The low gross was Dave Bartman
with second low Steve Nixon, Bill
Robinson and Don Edgar.
The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club is hosting its seventh annual
fall barbecue on Sunday, Sept. 20.
There will also be a silent auction
held on the curling floor.
